Silly bit on today's LN; a live interview with a very wet-looking James Mates stood in the middle of a road in New Orleans, with what looked like gusts of about 100mph threatening to blow him away!

And that was silly because...?

Because he could hardly speak with all the noise around him! It certainly seems silly and pointless to send reporters out to the centre of a city that will be (presumably) badly affected by a hurricane. Just seems like a waste of time to me.

Nina certainly seemed to be worried about him. When the video link on the newswall went blue and off she had a terrified face. However it came back up and said something along the lines of "we hope you will be safe and well" when James finished his piece. It reminded me of Clare Nasir on GMTV weather when she got blown away by a tide. However this hurricane is obviously much more dangerous.

I'm wondering if Nina's just had too much to eat? I'd thought she'd made her last appearance in August. However, this isn't the case.

For effect maybe?! I could ask you why the organisation you work for doesn't drop the rampant conservatism and incitement of hatred towards anybody that doesn't possess a double-barrelled name, in their news content.

But that's the point. They're there to report, to get opinions, stories and so on from the time, not just rely on news wires.

For your information, Jonathan, I have never worked (and have no intention of doing so) for the BBC. Yes, if I did work for them, you could ask me that question - but what the hell does that have to do with plonking a reporter in the middle of a freezing cold, wet, windy location?

I'm entitled to my own opinion, as is anybody on this forum. You might salivate over a correspondent struggling to do what he is supposed to do, i.e. give the facts, clearly and with ease, but I find it incredibly pointless watching them trying to answer a question whilst battling helplessly with strong gusts that might blow them halfway down a main road.

Point taken, but why do a live from there? Could they not have travelled there and got opinions, got a look at what's going on, filmed a fair bit of footage, etc, and then got away from the brunt of the hurricane if a live interview was being demanded of them?

I suppose you're right, if you can't hear them then there's little point - but then I suppose they're trying to show how bad it is! So there's a balance to be met.

Great to see Geraint back presenting again.

Have they tweaked the title music? It sounds much more better, and sharper - hard to explain.

I had to laugh when I read a newspaper this morning, and it said Mark Austin was the sexiest male.

And what's more surprising, Trevor McDonald came second in that survey.

That is quite a shocker lol.

Channel 4 News just interviewed someone standing in the rain with an ITV news umbrella. Laughing

I noticed that this morning. The titles also seem to be more blue than usual?
