What has happened to Alastair Stewart being in Beijing? He must have gone back home. If so, it was a pretty short trip for Alastair.
Speaking about Alastair, seeing him read the news nowadays and from what I remember from him when he used to present the News At 545, he can put on a sort-of plummy accent and I think that helps the news bulletin be effective. Great voiceover material. Anyone in agreement?

I totally agree with you, McMahon. I think Alastair is the best presenter ITV News has. I think it would be a great shame if he isn't given News at Ten when Trevor leaves - he certainly deserves it more than Mark Austin.

It's not often Alastair is used for the Evening News, but here he is tonight! As always, GREAT to see him used for prime time bulletins.

Just out of curiosity, who is he presenting with on the EN?

Nina Hossain.

Radio Times says that she should be presenting with James Mates instead of Stewart. Agree with the above though - he should be used more on the primetime bulletins.

I wonder when she is going to go on maternity leave. Surely shes edging on to 9 months now?

I don't watch ITV News but used to think Julie Etchingham was good on Sky

I didn't think ITV news would suit her as she seemed better at in depth interviews than newsreading and being a personality - Newsnight or C4 News I would have thought would be good for her.

Anyway, I'd be interetsed to nkow anyone's view on what's she like?

Maybe she'll give birth live on air? Laughing

Well, I certainly think Julie's a brilliant addition to ITV News. She's a fantastic newsreader IMO and, as I said in the NaT thread a while ago, her wonderful presenting style puts me in mind of the great Julia Somerville.

I think it took her a while to settle in but she fits in perfectly now - but is far better hosting alone than with Sir Trev alongside her.

I can't say I'm a big fan of Alistair Stewart reading the news. I find his delivery too urgent and overblown - ideal for modern day ITV news, mind.

Curiously, he's far better as presenter on Police, Camera, Action where, if anything, he's more reserved even though the nature of the material he's fronting provides ample opportunity for his more urgent style.

I know yeah, although fair play to Mark he did correct the fault at the end of NaT, he said there were more goals scored...
