I noticed the News Summary started at 11:15, is this permanent or did This Morning over-run?

It's in the Radio Times as 11:15 all this week so it was certainly planned, but I don't know if it's a long-term change.

Does anyone know the reason it was moved from 10:55 in the first place? Maybe they thought it was too soon to be interrupting This Morning after just 25 minutes or something.

They moved it to 11.10/15am when the Lunchtime News moved to 1.30pm, I think it was ITV's idea that they didn't want too much of a gap between the Summary and the main News, but considering the update moved by 15 minutes and the main bulletin by an hour, I don't think it made any difference.

They also binned off the 11.55am update at that point too.

It would have made a lot of sense to drop the 10.55am bulletin and keep the 11.55am bulletin, but more sense to have the national bulletin at 11.25am and the regional one at 11.30am. That is directly in the middle of the show giving 55 minutes either side. Interestingly, yesterday my EPG said ITV News from 11.15am-11.17am and regional until 11.20am but they had 5 minutes each this morning.

On another note, Mary is on her own in the studio whilst Mark is presenting on location although he strangely never opened the show and Mary introduced the item, and introduced Mark as though he was just part of an ordinary report. She also got her papers in the wrong order so she was covered by the graphics, and she started to wave her arms about with another piece of paper in her hand which did her no favours either Laughing

That link from Sarajevo on tonight's Evening News resembles one from the 90's. Awful.

Mark Austin is in in Sarajevo tonight (in a studio somewhere), Mary is in London.
Is there really any point in having Mark out there if he is just going to be stuck inside?

Edit: Beaten to it. Embarassed

Oh I am loving all this nostalgia with the use of correspondents past. Kate Adie, Michael Nicolson, Martin Bell - Fabulous! All still soooo good.

It is very pointless and I don't see why they spend the money doing such things. It doesn't add anything to the story and with the studio they have, they could put the backdrop on and give us the illusion that he is out there if they want us to think that so badly.

Indeed, the picture quality was awful too. Nice to hear Michael Nicholson once again after all these years. I really wasn't keen with Mark's performance though tonight, I feel ITV News has better male newsreaders than him - Alastair, James, Bill, so on.

Mark also said at the end that Julie would be live from Belgrade on tonight's News at Ten; interestingly she was live in Rothley on last night's programme.

It looked to me like Mark was in a cso as there was a fuzzy effect around his ears in particular. How do we know he wasent say in a box next door?

Considering that the BBC seem to use 'video phone' links in areas where they could probably get a decent satellite uplink for broadcast quality TV then I think your criticism is unjustified. How many reports have we had from Johannesburg filed from BBC correspondents that look as though they were done on a mobile phone and posted on YouTube? Rolling Eyes

Perhaps she caught a plane Confused Belgrade is only 3 hours from London if you don't care about your carbon hoof-print; although I don't see the necessity of reporting live from there.

Now that is where it starts to get silly. Both Mark and Mary are loosely associated with News at Ten because they cover. I don't see the point in sending out 1 newsreader, but two?! Julie should have been given the night off last night with Mary presenting on location and Trevor in the studio, and tonight Trevor should be given the night off with Mark on location and Julie in the studio. I know Mark wasn't in Belgrade but I assume they will be running the same story and I fail to see how sitting in front of a CSO screen abroad adds more to a story than sitting in front of a CSO screen in the studio. So I find it even more pointless doing the same story from two different cities.

why does this matter exactly? this isn't the BBC so you honestly don't have to worry about how they direct their resources.
