What possible reason would they have for wanting to make the studio look smaller? Most broadcasters use clever camera angles and wide angle lenses to make their 'little boxes' look bigger than they are.

I didn't say they'd want to; someone just asked whether they could do it with the chroma keying and I was just illustrating the point that they could.

Anyway just been watching the Evening News and Bill has been really good on it this week and last and he works better with Mary than Mark does. And it actually takes a lot for me to like male newsreaders so thats saying something. When Trevor finally leaves, they ought to move Mark back up to the late bulletin and bring in Bill full time to co present the Evening News.

IMO either James Mates or even Bill should be promoted to News at Ten after Trevor's departure. They are both great newscasters, far better than Mark, who has become too smug and arrogant for my liking. As a regular viewer of NaT, I wouldn't want to tune in to see his overconfident face, night after night!

Agree completely. Let's hope, when Trevor goes, they grasp the nettle and make a complete change. News at Ten needs something to kick-start it.

But, Trevor IS News at Ten, and News at Ten IS Trevor. I don't think anyone can carry the brand as well as he does, despite the fact that he actually doesn't do very much and is - realistically - lightweight when compared to some others!

Alastair Stewart would be a notable exception and a worthy successor. Messrs Mates, Neely and Austin just don't do it for me.

Oh yeah, forgot about Alastair. Why hasn't he had a shot at presenting News at Ten? With the exception of the (soon-to-be-departing..) Trevor, Alastair is the most senior newscaster at ITN and I wonder why he's been confined to the Lunchtime News.

I don't think his style would suit NaT. Even today on the lunchtime news he started the bulletin by sounding extremely annoyed and it just came across as very tabloid- but thats fine for generic ITV. Its his voice that fluctuates and unless he tones it down he probably won't suit News at Ten.

How would people feel about ITN having Jon Snow do the News at Ten bulletin? Realistically unless he quits C4 News it won't happen but still ...

Alastair Stewart was a regular News at Ten presenter until 1992 when he moved to London Tonight. So, I think he's got what it takes. He would be my preference after Trevor's departure. I feel he's the only ITN presenter who is suitable, to be honest. The thing I like about Alastair is his voice. Unlike the rest of them, who just read what's fed to them in a dull manner, Alastair actually puts feeling into his script. You can tell he knows what he's talking about. The other male presenters have little or no charisma in comparison. Failing that, get John Suchet back to ITN somehow. He was pretty much as good as it gets.

Although Alistair is popular on here, I don't think it's the case everywhere. Many will not let him forget his drink driving offences. I can see the headlines in the Daily Mail now

Even after his two convictions, he's still presenting Police, Camera, Action and he's still a regular at ITN, so I'd guess no one would take a blind bit of notice if he was bumped up to News At Ten.

That's a bit old hat now, Andrew. I don't see why having a conviction for drink driving has any bearing on him presenting News at Ten.

Neither do I, but you know that some people like to rake up old stuff

From over on Digital Spy this week, you'd think ITV had got Osama Bin Laden to host Police, Camera, Action
