OK, this is going completely off-topic but I thought I'd 'enquire'.

Looking at this clipon Youtube, I notice both the Weekend News bulletins as well as the Early Evening News used the same closing music (and opening sequences come 1998, when the EEN - for some reason - dropped the Big Ben title sequence). Was just wondering if the Morning News and the Lunchtime News (which both used an alternative arrangement of theme music in their opening sequences) used an alternate closing theme to the one used in the clip linked above? I've scoured the net looking for a video of any closing sequence to the Lunchtime/Morning News from this era but can only find opening titles.

Anyone else know? My memory's very hazy on this.

On the subject of that era, did the non-NAT bulletins have breaks in them, as they do now? I know NAT had a break as there are video examples on the net, but none for the other bulletins.

I dont think they did? ISTR that the lunchtime news was in a 25 minute slot at one point as the next programme was starting at 12.55pm. Also the Early Evening News was 20 mins.

You're right, there weren't any breaks in the other bulletins because of their shorter running lengths.

Pertaining to an older conversation (possibly in the NAT thread, not sure) about NAT bulletins being delayed during the '90s, I found an example of how they did it in J'Accuse the News (on YouTube). From the looks of it they replaced the 10pm clockface on the mini video screens behind the presenter with a closeup of a clockface with no hands - the "News at Ten" text in the desk was also left unlit. Also listen closely in the background and you'll hear the V/O say "From ITN, the news, with John Suchet".

ITV News' chief political correspondent Daisy McAndrew has been appointed to the new role of economics editor.

McAndrew, who returns from maternity leave next week, will cover economics and business stories across all ITV News programmes, which are made by ITN - with a particular emphasis on News at Ten.

With the economy at the forefront of the news agenda due to the credit crunch and inflation, ITV decided to create the role to boost its economics coverage.

Previously the patch was covered by economics correspondent Mark Eddo, who left ITN a month ago.

Well she has already returned from maternity leave but it seems a few correspondents have left recently.

Anyway, enjoyed watching News at Ten yesterday, a report by Geraint on London 2012, and we saw him working out Laughing

Geraint's report was on Lunchtime and Evening news too followed by much amusement from Katie/Alistair and Mark/Mary respectively!

I've noticed recently they've been refering to about 3 of the reporters as political correspondents, which seemed quite a lot in addition to Tom and Daisy.

Economics Editor? Is that formerly a role held by Mark Eddo?

Yes. I guess you missed this bit...

Don't know about anyone else but I'm getting seriously fed up of those stupid straps (on all news bulletins bar NaT) when the presenters are reading out the headlines at the beginning of the programme. It's just soooo tabloidy - especially the weird and wonderful phrases they manage to type up! And don't get me started on the way they cover certain stories, particularly on the Lunchtime News. News at Ten wins hands down for me when it comes to the editorial content.

..slightly OT there, but oh well, its still about ITV News.

Think he was Economics Correspondent.

Reporter, correspondent, editor - makes not a jot of dfference to the audience, I suspect, but matters a lot to the people who do the reporting.

What did happen to Caroline Kerr - she was Economics Editor a few years ago - and then quietly disappeared..?

Not a moment of glory for reporter Jenny Wivall just then.

Basically she forgot the Tory MEP's name stuttering for a few seconds before moving on. Then she seemed to forget everything else and kept on saying sorry.

Nina then had to fill us in afterwards because she didn't say hardly anything that we could understand.

RE: Mark Eddo... I noticed he kind of disappeared from ITV News for a couple of months, then he did one report from Heathrow about a month ago and then that was it...gone.
