Programme will get more ratings as time goes on, hope they don't change anything.

I agree. You can't get ratings straight away - you have to have time to build it up.

The tabloid tone of the journalism, more Guardian and less Mirror.

You are clearly labelling News at Ten with the rest of the ITV News brand. ITV News has tabloid and sensationalist journalism, News at Ten doesn't. News at Ten has the classic approach that all news programmes used to have until the 'new' way of presenting came in. The journalism isn't tabloid.

Maybe that's the problem.

I can see why it could be a problem but it shouldn't be. Some people will just go into watching it already with their pre-conceived idea formed based on the other bulletins and when they discuss it they label it with the other bulletins when it shouldn't be the case because they are completely different.

No, they may not watch it in the first place because it will be the same old ITV style of journalism.

Being pres fans, most people in here will have watched it and seen that the journalism is nothing like the rest of the ITV journalism but some people will attempt to pick faults in it anyway despite saying ITV need to move away from tabloid reporting. OK so its only one programme out of three but its still a start.

As a pres fan I don't see that much that distinguishes NaT from anything else coming out of the "theatre of news".

As a "regular" viewer I'm turned off by headlines on the lunchtime news such as, "Kylie Minogue at 40". Gimme a break!

It may be that NaT have a seriously different agenda, but I don't tune in to find out because of the earlier celebrity driven bulletins.

Exactly my point.

You are forgetting that this really awful level of journalism that you talk of, as used in the ITV Evening News is pretty much level in terms of ratings with the Six O'Clock News, so people must like it.

Any comparisons with the ITV Lunchtime News are not relevant, that agenda will be lighter suiting the daytime audience, I imagine the One is just the same

In my opinion ITV News has proved itself as a great news service, I mean the Evening News has won Best Programme for the last few years and they've certainly stopped doing so much showbiz and tabloid news in the last few month's.

I'm going to be completely honest- The Evening News is the only one news programme which I will watch in its entirety when I'm after a bit of news, and I think with viewing figures always somewhere between 3-5m people do like it. But its not without its critics because of its sensationalist reporting and with many not liking the overall journalism and presentation style which I actually prefer over the approach used by News at Ten. So even with its critics, it can't be disputed that ITN are doing something right with the evening bulletin. However I think its time for the late bulletin to be ditched as the flagship bulletin. News at Ten should stay where it is and keep its branding and style etc but I don't think it should be treated as 'God' like it currently is being done (by ITV News anyway) in terms of special reports and exclusives. I think its time to move on, let go of the past and let the evening bulletin become ITV's flagship show- its the most watched so why not?
