I've always thought Steve Clamp would make a capable occasional weekend news presenter. I never understood why they give the female Central Tonight presenter a stint at it - she's awful in my opinion.

Lucy seems to be making rare apperances, I'm not suprised because of where she lives but surely it would be better to get a regional presenter closer to London and ITN?

I think there was a period in 2007 lasting about 3 months where she would do it every fortnight with Nina or Steve doing the other fortnights (if that makes sense). I like Lucy and shes great on the national news but its not very practical for either her or ITN.

I think they need a solid weekend presenter, or even separate Saturday and Sunday presenters so people know who to expect. It just seems more consistent and looks more professional when its the same presenters.

I know, I had to turn off the evening news tonight as it looked so unprofessional that it wasn't Mark and Mary, I just couldn't cope Rolling Eyes

Thats not what I mean Rolling Eyes Theres usually consistency in the bulletins. We can expect Alistair and Katie on the Lunchtime News from Monday-Thursday, and we can expect Mark & Mary on the Evening News on the same days. We know it will be covers, although maybe Alistair, across both bulletins on a Friday. At weekends its unpredictable and I think audiences should be familiar with particular presenters on particular days.

Couldn't agree more, there was no problem with this during the 1990's, usually the main Weekend anchors were Carol Barnes, Denis Tuhoy, Katie Derham, ISTR on one occassion Trevor McDonald even did a Saturday, hard to imagine that now.

Although they're utilising Geriant Vincent alot, same goes for Lucy Meacock aswell.

But it is Steve Scott or Nina Hossain at weekends. Anyone else can be regarded as cover and not regular

You should watch BBC News on a Saturday, anyone from about 6 presenters can appear at any time

There are actually 4 of them who are regulars at weekends; Nina, Geraint, Steve and Romilly with Lucy doing the odd weekend. Its not far off the 6 that the BBC use.

Who am I missing from the BBC's regular saturday pool? Ben, Jane, Matthew, and Emily. Is Simon one of the others?

Mishal does it pretty regularly - and Nicholas Owen has done it as well ISTR.

Mishal seems to be a regular for Sunday. It's not usual for her to do Saturdays, though.

Sophie Raworth has donw it occasionally, as has Chris Lowe and Maxine Mawhinney if you count the 12 pm 10 minute summary.
