I really like Nina, shame the BBC didn't use her more! And she is far from low-profile - yes she might not be at Julie Etchingham's level but she's far more senior and high-profile than some are making out!

I agree, she is the only one who actively appears on each bulletin on a regular basis, but it would be nice for her to have a fixed role.

To be fair though I appreciate having a high-profile 'relief' presenter - it means when the main anchor's gone you've still got someone great! Compared to, for example, Tim Wilcox on N24.

Hmm, never thought of it that way.

That's very true, and something ITN have had a good history of - Nicholas Owen filled that role for quite sometime before getting a regular slot on the Lunchtime News.

It's also a reason why I don't particularly like them using random News 24 faces on BBC1 - you just don't know who they are. You can't trust them - they might be lying about the news! Very Happy

Another nice example now is Colin Brazier on Sky - though I think he should have his own slot.

I do find it interesting that Nina doesn't relief on NaT yet does on everything else and did on ITV News at 10.30!

ITN are very good with relief presenters; they also use Geraint quite a lot, although not as much as they use Nina whilst over on Channel 4 they have quite a few regulars.

Has there ever been an instance where ITV or Channel 4 News has had a shortage of presenters so an ITN employee has appeared on the other channel?

I wouldn't have thought the broadcasters would be particularly happy with that! ITV will want a regular, exclusive team for use on ITV News and same for Channel 4.

I didn't think there would be for the same thoughts, but surely some of them are on freelance?

I know in the 1990s, they had a version of the News at Ten titles with a voiceover for Jon Snow. They also had a version of the Early Evening News titles for Zeinab Badawi. I don't know whether they every actually did switch sides, but there certainly was provision. I remember Carol Barnes did the Channel 4 breakfast programme in the early 1990s and she was more associated with ITV. I don't know if things have changed since. I think it might depend on whether a presenter is employed by ITN or ITV/C4. If they were employed by ITN, I presume they could use them on any output?

I think in the eighties and very early 90s it may have happened sometimes, but then Channel 4 news was just considered another programme from ITN.

Jon Snow did host the ITV election coverage in 1992, he was by then a channel 4 face.

Ah...those were the days. Some younger viewers won't remember that, until Channel 4 went it alone to find it's own advertising revenue, ITV and Channel 4 used to cross promote for each other. And it was quite common for John Suchet to say at the end of the old 5.40 news 'Next from ITN, the Channel 4 News'. Seems absolutely unimaginable nowadays but telly was different then.

And at the end of News at Ten I seem to remember a caption saying "Bulletins during the night on ITV, Channel 4 Daily at 6am" or something simular.

I seem to remember both Carol and Dermot presented the news on the Channel 4 Daily and they were both later associated with ITV News bulletins.
