Getting used to it now.

Just want to ask about the regional headline bed - the old one wasn't a problem when we switched from the national to regional headlines (unlike the BBC), but on Monday there was a definate change in the Wales Tonight headlines.

I've watched the last couple of days on Central and it's been pretty seemless - so perhaps just teething problems or anyone else noticed it?

Also, they are really missing the 4 square animation - provided a good alternative to using a text based logo. I have noticed their are a few variations of the short ITV News animation used at the end of news round-ups, headlines etc. - some have Big Ben at the side, some at the bottom etc.

On the previous look the Meridian South editor had the brilliant idea of turning the bed up very high so there was always a volume clash - besides the regional bed was quite 'flashy'...

Currently they only seem to have two stings, the main one which has a bed tail and the break one which has no bed. I seem to remember before there were quite a few in use, the Morning had its own sting and I've heard quite a few different stings.

As for the two variations of sting, they seem to be a reverse of each other.

Given that the headline bed was supposed to be seamless into the regional opt, why was turning up the regional bed level very high so there was a volume clash a good idea?

You may not have noticed but I was being sarcastic.

Nina is still around, presenting the Evening News tonight. Does she not have any holiday?

Indeed not. Sarcasm doesn't come across well in text like that. Anyway, makes sense now!

Re: Regional News - do any regions use split titles now, or do they all play out the full version with logo forming up, then perhaps use the ending again after the headlines.

Meridian have a special version which is the normal titles but with no ITV Meridian Tonight at the end, then the usual "This is Meridian Tonight, the headlines here in the South/South East". Followed by a sting.

AFAIK all regions use the bulletin titles (straight to the sting) and there is no shorter version.

However, there are two stings, one that starts off like the beginning of the main titles and merges into the sting and the other is just the end of the titles.

Lookaround play out the full titles - then they have the headlines - and finally a shorter sting with a high shot of the studio.

Then the big surprise: one of my new bosses mentions I'll be doing a piece on the Russia/Ukraine gas brouhaha for the News at Ten Thirty .

How disappointing. Has the 'Nightly News' idea been dropped then?

ITV Wales used to use the shorter version of the regional titles on shorter bulletins but there now appears to be only 1 version of the new titles.

Im glad Nina was on the ITV Evening News today, I much prefer her to Mary.
