Which is why I said if one is to leave
Everyone in their job has aspirations to work their way up to the top. Why should newsreading be any different? They have about 4 or 5 different weekend presenters on the go so its not as though they're stuck for people to do low key jobs.
Nina's current position isn't exactly low-key; she is the main weekend presenter and weekday stand-in, and has a significantly higher profile on ITV than she had with the BBC.
An obvious opportunity for promotions was when the News at Ten was reintroduced but the powers that be chose to hire externally. (Personally I would have had Katie or Mary present the News at Ten with the other presenting the Evening News, of course assuming that they weren't first offered the position).

But there's nowhere to promote her to. Both Mary and Katie have been at ITN since the mid-to-late 1990s and Julie was signed on specifically to present News at Ten. Nina, whilst being very good, cannot be promoted because there's nowhere for her to go. They need a weekend/relief presenter and she's it. I don't know why people on TV Forum are so fascinated with newsreaders being promoted all the time - somebody has to do the low-key jobs; not everyone can be main presenter!
