Nina announced tonight that James Mates will be back with the Late News tonight. Have they gone back to a solo presenter for Friday's?

Looks that way. Far better IMO.

Radio Times is still listing two presenters thoough - Julie and Mark though I think. However im sure Mary is down for presenting NaT next week again - I hope so!

The promo for the ITV Late News had no sound. James Mates is presenting solo.

I think 1 presenter enough for the late news on a Friday especially the time it goes out.

Obviously they only had 2 presenters in the first place as they were trying to make the late news a clone of News at Ten right down to the opening titles!

Any caps? It's always nice to see Nina looking different, except for when she got that terrible hairdo after she gave birth, she's always looked exactly the same since she joined. I mean, is she a robot?

On the same subject of Nina, I find it incredible that this year, she will have been part of ITV News for four years, yet she's only been given two or three out of the studio broadcasting duties. The only ones I can remember were all in 2005; she did a report about the London Olympics when Britain won the bid, a couple of days later she presented the Evening News from Trafalgar Square, and she also reported/presented from Leeds when the bomb suspects were arrested. Why keep her in the studio so much?

Well why keep any of the others in the studio so much? For ITV News, they usually always send Mark out and for NAT, Julie. I've seen Mary presenting on location once or twice, but infrequently. The others (Alastair, Katie, Trevor, Nina, James Mates etc) tend to stay at ITN.

Why not give them diversity and variety? Seriously, Nina may as well be made from steel and oil.

Nina is fantastic. If Kate, Mary or Julie leave ITN and Nina is still there she is definitely overdue a promotion from weekend presenter and stand in. How she has gone all these years being overlooked is beyond me.

But there's nowhere to promote her to. Both Mary and Katie have been at ITN since the mid-to-late 1990s and Julie was signed on specifically to present News at Ten. Nina, whilst being very good, cannot be promoted because there's nowhere for her to go. They need a weekend/relief presenter and she's it. I don't know why people on TV Forum are so fascinated with newsreaders being promoted all the time - somebody has to do the low-key jobs; not everyone can be main presenter!

Which is why I said if one is to leave Wink

Everyone in their job has aspirations to work their way up to the top. Why should newsreading be any different? They have about 4 or 5 different weekend presenters on the go so its not as though they're stuck for people to do low key jobs.
