I have to ask, what is the deal with the evening news?

most of the time If you take out the break it main running time is 20mins:

with the other 10, mainly pointless, it just like the old 5.40 news, there not bothered to extended it any way

The 5.40 news wasn't 20 minutes long, it finished at 5.55 so they could fit in the ITV National Weather

It seems the concept of programmes on commercial tv being smaller than the slot has just been made aware to you

Good point, and 623058 is forgetting that the evening bulletin actually used to be at 5.45pm. It was only moved to 5.40pm to include the ITV National Weather at the end.

Yes and with the ad break after the 5.45 news the programme itself probably ran for about 12 minutes.

Even the Lunchtime News probably runs for around 22 minutes - usually starts around 1.28pm and continues and 1.50pm.

Iroincally then the Evening News perhaps does have the shortest running length despite being the only bulletin to have the full half-hour slot.

It does vary though from day to day - it usually finishes later on Tuesdays and Thursdays compared to the rest of the week.

Probabaly so they can start Emmerdale slightly later on those nights. On a Wednesday I notice both Emmerdale and Corrie start more or less on tme.

Interesting to see Jackie Kabler reporting on the Seal Hunt for ITV News tonight - no on-screen appearances - just a sign-off - wasn't she on GMTV?

Yes, though whether she is freelance now or simply at ITN I am unsure, as she occasionally presents on Setanta Sports News.

Spot on, Mr. Time Warp.

Quote:
Jackie Kabler is a freelance television reporter and presenter, probably best known for her work with GMTV, where she spent seven years as a roving correspondent. During her time with the breakfast show Jackie covered major stories including the Soham murders, the Asian tsunami, the Athens Olympics and the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. She also travelled the world making holiday films and, back in the studio, presented fashion and lifestyle items and stood in as a presenter on the famous sofa.

Earlier in her career Jackie worked as a presenter and reporter for ITV West, where she specialised in crime, and also as a reporter for Channel TV in Jersey, Central TV and Five News.

In January this year Jackie left GMTV to work freelance. Among her current projects are reporting for ITV News and presenting sports programmes for Setanta Sports News, as well as various corporate and voiceover jobs.

Next Saturday, ITV News will air at 11am, 4.35pm and 8.55pm.
I know alot of us moan that the late bulletin is usually too late, but isn't 8.55pm a little too early? The boxing is due to end at 10.30, so couldn't they have made a few shuffles and had the news on then?

Really scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

8.55pm is far better than 11.45pm, as it's been most weeks lately.

The "late" Saturday bulletin used to air at around 8.45pm most weeks for quite a long time, certainly during the 90's and even into the red/blue ITV News era. Used to feature the Lottery results IIRC.

I remember that, the late bulletin on a Saturday used to air a lot earlier in the evening than the late Sunday bulletin.

Interesting to see that despite ITV scheduling a 1 hour programme from 7pm next Sunday they are still showing the Evening bulletin earlier than the traditional 6.40pm slot. Would have been better to start the film earlier and have the news at 6.40pm.
