What with it being a Friday. I would expect her to present the Evening News as well.

I have to ask, what is the deal with the evening news?

most of the time If you take out the break it main running time is 20mins:

with the other 10, mainly pointless, it just like the old 5.40 news, there not bothered to extended it any way

I think it is slightly longer than 20 minutes. It starts dead on 6.30pm and usually finishes at 6.55pm. The commercial break, if they have one, is usually very short. I'd guess that it is at least 22 minutes long, if not 23. For a programme on a commercial station, that's pretty normal. And, as I said, they don't always take a commercial break.

most of the time when I watch it, Starts, 18.30 and mainly finishes 18.52 after the news headlines. then the other 8 mins just seem to be weather, ads, and chat.

ITV are missing out on 5 mins of news,. how couldl anyone say this is the main bulletin, news at ten has more time, 30mins, there have already destroyed the lunchtime news, and for what more daytime crap?

I've noticed this too when I've watched the Evening News recently. They seem to drop the middle advert break and end the programme about 18:53, so they can have a longer ad break before Emmerdale. But last night they had a break in the middle and at the end, so both were shorter - this is usually what happens anyway though.

Looking at that post, you clearly haven't heard of the wonderful Zero Tolerance week Rolling Eyes have you?

The 5.40 news wasn't 20 minutes long, it finished at 5.55 so they could fit in the ITV National Weather

It seems the concept of programmes on commercial tv being smaller than the slot has just been made aware to you

The ad break they just had consisted of only about 1 or 2 adverts, but I don't see why they don't stretch it a little more either side of the second half because if you count ITV News as a daytime programme, the Evening News is by far the best performing daytime show ITV have. In comparison, 23-24 minutes (which is what ITV News is in total) is quite long for a commercial programme in a half hour slot.

I hate the way the credits at the end of the programme block out the right presenter, surely it would be better to zoom the camera out a little further or change the position so the two presenters are still in shot whilst the credits are rolling.

Alastair and Julie will present the news at 11pm, did Alastair do the Lunchtime News today?
