They haven't got rid of it. It's still at 11.00pm and is still called The Late News (even if the idents actually just say ITV News - but that's the same for other bulletins, too). I'm fairly sure Mark and Julie will continue to present it; the only reason they didn't do the last one was because there was some bug going around ITN which took down a few of the presenters, including Mark and Julie.
Personally, I'm glad they ditched the NAT branding for it. The edited titles were pretty crap and made ITN look cheap. By reverting to ITV News branding, they still look credible.

I am a little annoyed where ITV News is concerned because there is all the hype involving NAT's return and they publicise that THE LATE NEWS is on Friday night at 11 and then they get rid of it. I think that they should create its own titles and still have Mark and Julie hosting. Or even Mark and Mary because she was great on NAT last week!!

Oh yea, im sure that little, tiny bit of editing ruined the whole look and feel of The Late News and affected its credibility

Obviously not journalistically, but in a presentation sense, yes. They couldn't afford to get new titles done so had to chop off the clockface. That makes them look cheap. Maybe it seemed more to me because I knew the reason behind it. If I didn't, then maybe it wouldn't have stood out so much.

Completely agree - if the Friday bulletin is going to be later it should be part of the Weekend News brand. The trouble is that has been going downhill fast over the last year or more, firstly with the ridiculous times of the Saturday bulletins - which seem to be around 4.30pm and 11.45pm now - and secondly with the effective axing of the Sunday 6.40pm bulletin, which was often the highest rated of the week.
And this Saturday the national news is on at 1.15pm, 3.45pm and 11.25pm - with the regional at 1.20pm and 3.30pm. No reason why the "evening bulletins", certainly the national one, couldn't be on at 6pm after The Boat Race.

Probably up to Gordon Brown. If he calls an election next year ( I think he'll leave it till 2010 myself - PM's usually wait the full five years if there is a risk of being voted out) I imagine like in 2001 (I think) the bulletin would go 5 days a week for the election campaign - and I think if it did reasonably well on the Friday ITV could be tempted to keep it.

How long till News at Ten is instated on Friday I wonder.

Or how long before it is ditched altogether again... Be interesting to see if it is still around in the autumn.
Without a shadow of a doubt, it will be still around.
