The virtual floor with Nina looks far better. The one with Alistair and Katie gets worse and worse every time its on screen. But I don't see why they never got some shots of the walkway before they removed it then used this instead of using CGI to create a new one.

Exactly - I agree though the one used with Nina looks great, and a simply variation of it would still work with the atrium background.

The simplest change would be to keep the platform under the desk (as News at Ten have done) and then bring that clockface which currently looks outside the studio in to the studio around the edge, effectively being the walkway when they're doing reports standing up.

Are you talking about the floor used for the Budget coverage, because between these two:

the floor under Katie and Alastair looks much better to my eyes; far more realistic.

The second floor presumably looks more realistic because it IS real? The floor in the top grab is virtual (i.e. added by chroma key and rendered as CGI) and thus doesn't look real.

Both are virtual. The top image is the entirely virtual studio and the bottom image is the main ITV News studio with the 'real' curved green wall.

The real walkway was removed last autumn in preparation for News at Ten.

Well that shows what a good job ITN have done in creating a virtual walkway if noggin has been fooled by it!

Do they normally open the weekend bulletins with the camera zooming in on the desk with the summary music? This happened on the 11pm bulletin last night.

Is Geraint now the main ITV Evening News anchor alongside Mary now?
Edit: They never fade the presenters mic up at the right time following the advert break.

I was very fooled - still don't see how they do the shadows that well!

Isn't it because ITV offered them that slot as they had missed out on the sponsorship of ITV Weather?

Not sponsors, just a prominent slot.

No idea, it just bugged me seeing it every blooming time. Oh well

Yeah, it's very annoying and surely now after three months or so anyone who wants titles would have got them.

They even get the spot when there aren't any other ads scheduled, so we get a 20-second break with just the one ad.

That's a TV pres fan typo if ever I saw one! I find I do the same thing with 'form' - I always end up typing 'forum' because I spend so much time on here!

On the subject of that advert, surely the official sponsor of ITV National Weather must be a bit annoyed that Topps Tiles are getting a regular spot despite not being the official sponsor?
