I think the more important question is whether it gets better ratings than the previous occupants of the 10pm slot.
ITV don't particularly care about the ratings for the news, they care about the ratings for particular slots. If by moving news to a new slot it boosts the ratings in that slot, then they're happy bunnies because they keep their advertisers happy. If it doesn't they aren't because they aren't delivering enough eyeballs to the ads.
(Ratings are MUCH more important for ITV than the BBC as they directly influence ITV's income)

Doesn't it get higher ratings than the old 10.30 bulletin? So why would they change it back?

They've denied things before at weekends.
Last years 10pm slot average was 3-4m. The 10.30pm News averaged at around 2.5m. News at Ten gets roughly 2.5m so moving it won't make much impact for revenue.

Won't delivering another 0.5-1 million viewers at 10pm be of benefit? If the ratings carry on as they are ITV will have lost viewers at 10pm not gained them by re-introducing News at Ten? Shunting the late news back to 2230 would allow ITV to schedule something that performs better against the Ten O'Clock News on BBC One?

BS
I like News At Ten and I watch it each night.
If ITV drop it again, it wil be bad for them.
Why not go back to the old format with :-
News At One
Early Evening News
News At Ten
All with their own identity and own set.

I agree, I'm in favour of dropping News at Ten. I fail to see why ITV benefit from broadcasting the same format (forget about content for this) at exactly the same time.

LU
not really when you consider they would have to spend money on commissioning a load of new formats for 10pm (including the 90minute drama they abandoned this year). I've always thought having News at Ten there is actually more cost effective, and weren't there political reasons for bringing it back as well?
