I have to say that I'm slightly disappointed that ITV News did not lead with Carol Barnes today. She was reduced to the last headline, after the sport, and to the 'and finally' story in the bulletin. If BBC News 24 could lead with her all afternoon, I see no reason why ITV couldn't, especially considering she was their newscaster and did the Weekend News for many years.

Yea, I have to agree - there was no real major breaking news today (weekends are notoriously slow news days) so I would have liked ITV to lead with a tribute to their former collegue. Glad that Alastair paid his own personal tribute though, filing the report.

I wonder if News at Ten will say something...looking back in depth into her career maybe - they may wait until the day of her funeral of course.

Extremely sad news still - shocked me when it was confirmed this afternoon.

I agree it was nice that Alastair did the report - he is one of the few ITN newscasters still working for ITV News from when Carol worked there.

It would be nice if they said something on News At 10 on Monday too as Carol presented that too. Infact she also presented the lunchtime news and early evening news so it would be fitting to mention her on all of them on Monday.

Why though? What are they supposed to say?

"Oh yeah and by the way Carol died 2 days ago as you may already know."

I think the report on Saturday was a very fitting tribute from Alistair Stewart and like I said before, you can only fit deaths into the news in certain places. To scatter her around and give her random messages would be rather strange in my opinion.

The news has already been reported so why report it again?

Maybe a mention could be given when her funeral happens in a few days. That would make a lot more sense.

She was a marvellous and unique person and lots of people will miss her but you've got to give her some respect at least.

I agree - at the most, and probably most fitting, would be the standard "In memory of..."slide at the very end of the programme.

I think perhaps repeating her recent Tonight with Trevor McDonald documentary might be the most fitting tribute.

I think the end was the right place for the bulletin. They shouldn't have lead on it especially with the stronger lead which they did have. Putting it in the middle of the bulletin would just be forgetful so having it at the end of the bulletin where it is the last thing that is reported is right IMO.

Im not saying they have to report it as "news" but as a mark of respect they should mention it as she was a News at Ten presenter. Had she died on a weekday it would have been reported on News at Ten so why shouldnt she have a tribute on there just because she died on a Saturday.

As has been suggested, I think the most fitting thing for Monday's NAT to do would be to have an endcap tribute - just Trevor and Julie signing off and fading to a silent tribute photograph. That's how most TV shows handle the death of a team member.

Did anybody else think that Geraint's mic was lefty up during Mary's intro to the top story, like me? There was alot of paper rustling in the background even though Masry didn't move her's.

It was probably the expression on Geraint's face when the OB went down. Laughing

Although its not technically ITV News, I would say the closest we have to a veteran presenter on ITV is Lucy Meacock from Granada Reports who has been there for 18 years as well as a couple of other newsreading jobs before that.

Bob Warman Wins, 26 Years of Central + 12 years of ATV = 38 Years at ITV

We were talking female veterans, so unless Bob's been keeping a closely guarded secret all these years, I don't think (s)he'll take the crown.
