Why does she do it. Surely they don't have to get regional news presenters to do it rather than other national presenters. There must be one of them available.

Re: The Late News - did they just use the generic ITV News opening or had they an 11pm clockface version?

They just had the generic weekend ones.

The Radio Times is showing Geraint for this weekend so perhaps it was a relatively late change of plan, but given that Lucy is a semi-regular stand-in on the weekend bulletins (and before her there was another regional presenter in the form of Lucy Owen) ITN must consider this the most cost effective way of meeting their requirements.

Mentioned in the Sky News thread that Julie Etchingham is hosting the RTS Journalism Awards on Wednesday night, so that'll probably be her first night off from News at Ten then.

I guess a few other presenters might be off too - Nina Hossain probably the best bet for News at Ten, but I wonder whether ITN will be letting Mark or Trevor go to the ball.

I would have guessed Mark will be down there, as I'd imagine the Evening News is up for Programme of the Year?

Yes the evening news is up for the best news programme award (against 5 News and the 10 o'clock news). Plus ITV news is up for the News Events award for its coverage of the Ipswich murders.

Martin Geissler is up for specialist journalist and John Ray for television journalist.

Is there anywhere you can see all the nominations? I've tried the RTS site with no luck.

I hope Nina gets to do the ten, I'd imagine she would be good. I wish she would replace Katie on the lunchtime news. I've just never warmed to Katie, her head nodding like the Churchill dog and her biker jackets! Laughing

Yep, they're on mediaguardian.

Presenter of the year one's interesting... a regional presenter up against Snow and Paxo!

I think it was a massive mistake to bring in Julie for News at Ten and overlooking Nina. Nina is a great presenter and deserves a better status than stand in and weekend presenter. They could have easily drafted in Julie to take over Nina's shifts whilst Nina does the News at Ten.

Its good to see Lucy doing the national news this weekend. I think she is great as well.

Christ no! Evil or Very Mad

From your description of Katie you're not basing your opinion on a representative (or even recent) selection of bulletins that she has presented.
The ITV national presenters are generally OK but Katie is the only one who actually merits tuning in to watch.

Also, Romilly Weeks is underused and makes a more than capable stand in when the regular presenters are unavailable.

Nina will probabaly do the Evening News and News at 10 then if Mark, Mary and Julie will be at the RTS Awards.
