I hope she is ok, she was a decent forecaster..

Technically isn't Becky a presenter rather than a forecaster?

Forecasters are people like Rob McElwee, Penny Tranter, Philip Avery etc. who have formal Met Office - or other - forecaster training.

The presenters have fewer formal qualifications - and though Met Office trained - don't have the same forecasting skills - formally at least.

I believe the wonderful Gemma Humprhies is a trained broadcast met office presenter also. I can see she will go national before long, hope so she needs more exposure IMO

Whether weather presenters or weather forecasters, they're not newsreaders are they!

I'm reliably informed the reason ITV weather people are now missing their cues is because they have had to resort to doing the summaries wearing ear plugs so they're not subjected to a burst of Sheila's Wheels everytime they try and do their job!

They should ask for the UTV feed.

Are any of the BBC's weather presenters not forecasters as well?

Yes - Carol Kirkwood and Louise Lear are both Met trained presenters rather than forecasters. Their training is comprehensive when it comes to understanding weather processes and communicating them to the viewer, but they aren't forecasters, so won't also work - potentially - in areas like the Navy, RAF etc.

Many of the BBC regional weather presenters are similar - presenters NOT forecasters. For instance Ivor Moores at Look East was a forecaster, but Julie Reinger is a presenter. (Not sure the Met Office provide all the regional presenters anymore)

Equally, Alex Hill and John Hammond, who used to be ITV National Weather presenters (also provided by the Met Office) were forecasters ISTR - though I'm not sure any of the current ITV team are.

I think Martyn Davies is a forecaster.

Yeh, I think he is.

As far as I know, all 3 of BBC Scotland's weather team are forecasters. Heather Reid definitely is, as I'm sure is that Peter bloke as he is only a stand-in and is often seen being interviewed about changing weather when its an important story. Not so sure about Gail though....

Yes - Martyn Davies is a forecaster I believe - I'd forgotten he was still part of the team.

The first two stories on the ITV Evening News tonight were the same top two stories on Wales Tonight but the other way around with Wales leading with the suicides from a group of young people in Bridgend. Not often you see a top story from Wales on the National News let alone the top two stories.

I see ITN sent Helen Callaghan to cover the story in Bridgend whilst Wales Tonight had 2 reporters covering it including Catharine Evan-WIlliams live from Bridgend.

Laughing

They should have given her the day off and brought Nina in. When you've got a sore throat the last thing you want to do is talk!

Interesting to hear GMTV's Jackie Kabler do a report ...
