Are you telling me that they wouldn't have enough space either behind the cameras or behind the graphics wall to store something for less than half an hour a day that wouldn't even be that big?
But how would you know whether there
is
space to store something like that, or indeed how big that walkway would actually have to be? Or whether there is a budget to build it, or have it installed and taken out each day?

I don't know, its only a suggestion and it will never happen anyway. But an idea in response to your question, a few blocks that slot together to make a walkway, stored in the corner of the studio when News at Ten is on.
There would be plenty of space to stack a few boxes behind the graphics wall or to shove them in a corner somewhere.
I really don't see why people are attacking just a suggestion. No, it wasn't thought through properly but the bottom line is
it will never happen
so there is no point in going into detail about whether there would be enough space for a fire escape

I'm not "attacking" anything, and I don't care if it happens or not.
I was correcting your erroneous supposition which you stated as fact, but it seems you don't care about the facts.
If it was something that would happen in reality then I would be concerned with the facts. If I know it will not happen then there is no point in thinking of things like that. I'm not going through so much trouble to research studio size, fire regulations etc just to think of an idea.
I don't think the suggestion was erroneous. I don't think any suggestions are no matter how far fetched they are after all they are
suggestions
not idea pitching. If it was to happen there would be a way around it.
TomO, if you've every watched some of the "behind the scenes" footage that is available on-line you will have realised that most studios have no space for storage for unused bits of scenery.
This applies more than ever in news studios such at those used by ITV News or N6 in BBC TV Centre. The cameras are backed up against the wall to give the impression of space in what is essentially quite a small area. A simple risk assessment on having unnecessary bits of kit hanging around would probably prohibit them being there anyway.
No doubt noggin could confirm this, but I could hazard a safe bet that the Breakfast sofa is so designed that its three constituent parts can be easily removed from N6 and stored safely elsewhere when not in use.
