slghtly off topic but is it me as it appears that Setanta Sports News appears to use similar lettering to ITV News on the ticker and the information bar on the left hand side of the screen

ITN makes ITV News, and ITN makes SSN.
Haven't seen it since it launched but SSN was using the Din font that Channel 4 used to use. I doubt they'd be using the same font as the ITV News though as the ITV font is custom made and supposed to be for ITV only.
Has someone forgot to mention to ITV that people just want to have the news read to them, in a professional way, with decently edited and impartial reports.
I don't want Trevor or anyone else spinning on an imaginary cart-wheel over a GoogleEarth picture of the location being reported on using 80s CSO technology.
It's a news broadcast, not a "straight-to-DVD" B-movie!

I was thinking maybe a huge white clock face on a black background and the time being shown on that, with a circular desk in the middle. But who knows, the term virtual floor could mean anything.
Why have a "virtual floor"? A normal one will do, with a man/woman sat there reading the news!
Sounds like they will Sir Trevor to walk through water to get to the desk
cos that could look quite cool for news at ten. Something like a zoom around big ben then up through Grays Inn Road to Trev and Julie?
Urgh, that's horrendous. There's way too much going on and the presenters suspended on a platform? Please! I bet that doesn't please German sufferers of vertigo!
That is very nice indeed. Not only the studio design, but also the titles, they flow and integrate into the programme well.
I imagine that when they're using the studio through the programme that you don't see anything floating and just see the studio design, and the lovely background that reminds me of a cross between the virtual world of ITV News and the design of the newsroom on News 24/old BBC 1 News design.
From the pan in, wouldn't they need a lot of studio room to make this possible?
Saying that couldn't they just put the desk at one side of the studio rather than in the middle and use the technology to make it look different.
If they could re create something like that using the atrium well, they could achieve something very exciting, maybe perhaps without the space looking platform, I'm not sure that the majority of Britain will take to that.

Yeah, I'm not keen on the platform, but surely this would work well with the current look they have.
ITN did the pan-and-zoom through the atrium at Grey's Inn Road for the old Early Evening News about 15 years ago! It's not necessary to repeat it!
For 24 hour rolling news channels it may be appropriate to see the working newsroom in the background. It adds dynamism to an empty news day and assists with the element of immediacy and prompt delivery.
However, for standard scheduled broadcasts on a predominantly "entertainment channel" as ITV1 are, I don't need to witness the guts of the operation. I just want a news bulletin with reports from wherever, nicely put together and narrated by someone who sounds as though they know what they are talking about.
If I buy meat from the deli counter at Sainsbury's I wouldn't expect them to install a glass wall behind the counter showing me the gory activities of the abattoir. For the same reason I don't want to see 20 empty desks in a newsroom and 2 people throwing paper aeroplanes around because they actually have nothing else to do for 20 minutes at 10pm

Shock horror - the current background is recorded and not live! And it wouldn't work to be just a glass wall as the studios are down two floors!
