I'm going to sound dumb but I'd really appreciate if someone could tell me how many studios there are, what they are commonly called and how they differ?

I'd appreciate it as I'm struggling to tell the difference! Laughing

Well I thought there were two ITV News studios at Grays Inn Road. One for the main national bulletins and the other for ITV London? However, I am not sure about this?

There are two large-ish studios in the basement of 200 Gray's Inn Road.
Studio 2 houses the normal 'theatre for news' set.
Studio 1 is a completely green virtual box.

Upstairs, studio 4 next to the ITV newsroom is the home of ITV London.

Setanta Sports News comes from studio 5.

Is that where the non-NAT ITN bulletins came from pre-1999? I seem to remember seeing the atrium behind the ITV presenter during the mid-1990s. Also, where did NAT come from during the 1990s?

Oh OK, thanks for that, and is it the case now then that the bulletins are being held in Studio 1 rather than Studio 2, for some reason?

Also, how can you tell the difference between the virtual and "Theatre of News" sets on screen? Is it supposed to be easy? Embarassed

Its nice as it is at the moment but why change the colour of the bit the desk is sat on? Yes the walkway doesnt look real now on the coming up bit earlier.

I thought maybe they were in the main studio, but there was just green on the floor, thinking they may be just working on the floor space. However looking now they are 100% in a virtual studio, the grey border around the newswall doesn't look real, and you can see green outlines on the desk and the scripts.

1. The newswall is not reflected in the desk in the virtual studio - the top of the desk appears see-through rather than an upside-down reflection.

2. The floor and walkways look fake

3. The camera angles.

4. The lighting is different

Yes, well some of those caps are years old.

Thank you - so they are in the virtual studio on the Evening News now? There doesn't look to be reflections on the desk, maybe I'm just incredibly unobservant.

What does everyone think is going on?

Not sure if it's been posted:

Like most of the rest of the industry, Monkey is keen to find out when News at Ten is coming back. ITV has been trying to keep Sir Trevor's return under its hat. So Monkey was interested to hear bulletin producer ITN's boss Mark Wood was rather more forthcoming than expected about the issue. Mark was being interviewed on BBC Radio Five Live's breakfast show about the launch of Setanta's new sports channel. But he was caught a little off guard when asked about the return of News at Ten - blurting out that it's coming back in January . A slip of the tongue or an elaborate double bluff? You decide.

Having said that, there do seem to be proper reflections in whatever studio they are using at the moment.

From itsrobert's hints, we seem to be seeing some kind of 'third way' that's neither studio 1 nor studio 2.
