I assume they are starting to broadcast in widescreen on Sunday to trial it and if their is problems they will get it fixed for Monday?

I would have thought they'd have trialed it already while they were off air. I doubt they'd leave it until air time to test it, just in case it goes wrong. Whether it is a weekday or the weekend, the production standards are the same.

Well, not with ITV News lately!

With the regions going widescreen as well it probably makes sense to do it on a quieter day because at least one of them will have a problem with it.

The late night news tonight is widescreen for the studio tonight. A news programme earlier than expected.

The late ITV Weekend News is in widescreen.

With blue astons, animating ITV London stlye.

Titles remained unchanged, with teal logo, despite it being white on the astons.

Is it just me or are the astons already blue? On the late bulletin they look less teal then they ever had, and further up my 4:3 screen - have they gone widescreen tonight as well?

I am sitting here watching the ITV News at 11.10pm, Steve Scott in the Studio is being broadcast in 16:9. The opening titles were not in 16:9 but the new blue Astons were broadcast in 16:9. A graphic prepared for the bulletin was also in 16:9.

No new titles, hope we get some on Sunday or Monday!!!

Edit- The screen transition flash went over the entire 16:9 screen over the left and right black side bars on thr 4:3 image

They have the new Widescreen ITV News graphics on now. They're very fast aren't they?

Hopefully this speedy effect is only for tonight. It looks very American and more like an Entertainment programme rather than News to have it speedily shooting in and back out..

Changes a bulletin early, I thought it would be a bulletin late. I'm suprised.

Edit: I take it was a cock-up {with the reports format unchanged}, and that it wasn't ment to happen tonight?

How refreshing it is to finally have ITV News in widescreen. On DTT, the picture looks clearer and nothing is cut off now. Excellent. They should have done it seven years ago along with the BBC. Whilst I would have been more than happy to have kept 4:3 for all television broadcasts, once most other programmes had gone widescreen it was annoying to have such an important programme still in 4:3.

Incidentally, I don't expect there to be any changes to the titles. The opening sting at 2310 was in widescreen, as was the ITN endcap. Thinking about it, the titles were probably already made in widescreen as a safety measure for exactly this circumstance (i.e. the transition to widescreen happening). If they're going to give ITV News a new look, it would be more sensible to do it on the same day as News at Ten launching.

Why change the straps then?

Because they've looked stupidly out of place for ages.
