I love how the clockface is overlaid and aligned on the studio floor for the opening shot! The astons and other graphics are not great, they seem quite big and bulky. Certainly better than the previous graphics, and the backdrop is ten times better without those powerpoint squares!
Certainly one of the best openings seen on any news programme in a long time. The bed also works so well because of the kind of holding "quiver" it has, it really reinforces the effect of the titles morphing into the studio. And that headline bed is really quite wonderful.
On the flat '2 presenters at the desk' shot, they need to do something to make the backdrop more distant to the desk. The studio look really small at the mo.

Does anyone know if the itv news website is getting a new look?
Thought they wanted to go for a 'warmer' feeling!!! That looks practically icy!
I suppose the last studio had a grey floor and grey walkway with some white studio parts. There wasn't really any colour involved in any of it making it look quite clinical. Here there seems to be a lot more blue and teal introduced but it doesn't feel as warm as I was expecting.
Still prefer it to the previous look. Can't wait to the ITV Nightly News - I hope they have slightly different opening titles - with those small people omitted.
Granada News used their full titles at 10.55 - nice theme with a bit of a change in the middle which may take some getting used too!
Difficult to describe, but they kind of spin around at the beginning to create a screen made up of the lines, with images then playing on that before it spins again to get the end logo - which annoyingly doesn't have the strip on the RHS as the other ITV logos have.
On to the main news - and on the whole it's a thumbs up - and a much bigger effort than I expected (not often we can say that!). I love the new ITN endcap and the titles are superb. I'm not too sure about the astons - a bit regional newsy for my liking!
A shame they didn't do a bit more with the studio - just carpeting the walkway would have made a big difference.
The atrium background is technically brilliant, though as I thought at the General Election, the curve of the ITV News wall with the straight lines of the ITN Atrium doesn't blend together that nicely. C4's real atrium background will always work better.
As nice as the background is, the newswall has kind of been made redundant, doing nothing that couldn't be done with a real shot over the atrium and with it only being used for two-ways and newswall shots which could be achieved with something like the screen used in the Big Brother eviction studio.
A couple of things I didn't like - the headline straps for one - the regions were using a better version of these. Also, the coming up strap wasn't neccessary. The bongs were a bit weak too!
The switch to the regions isn't quite as effective as the old one, with a general ITV News sting before. When we switched back we went straight into the studio - not sure if this was how it's meant to be or a mistake!
Finally, I thought we might be getting full programme names back - but it looks like it's still branded ITV News.
(And as a side note, I don't think ITV1 have a specific news ident now either!)

I know in the 1999-2004 look the titles were changed to blue/yellow in mid-2003 with a few cosmetic changes once or twice before that, but apart from that I think most looks for the national news have been with us a good few years with only minor changes.

I'm not looking on today as being a whole re-launch of ITV News. In my opinion, it has been more of a tweak along the lines of the 2003 tweak to the 1999 look. In essence, the studio is the same (albeit with a new background) and the music is practically the same. The only things that have changed dramatically are the titles and graphics. It isn't like the 2004 re-launch where absolutely everything changed in one go.
