All regional sets are identical and by doing it that way, more presenters can have a go at the weekend news, and they can just project the usual ITN images onto the screen behind. ITN might be considering other regional presenters to have a go, but they simply can't travel.

i'm sorry but you miss my point. The bulletin is made by ITN in London and thus is presented from there. why on earth would they would fire up a regional ITV studio in Manchester when they have their own?
And do you think these other 'regional presenters' are incapable of buying train tickets/driving cars?

Other commitments which could prevent them from travelling across the country.

Hardly practical editorially though - having your presenter in one city and your production team and production facilities in another. What if you wanted to do a studio interview or have a sport presenter on set? I'm afraid it is a neat bit of lateral thinking, but solves a problem that doesn't exist.

You can screentest a presenter by bringing them to London and recording a dummy bulletinin down-time - which is what most broadcasters do. Those that are any good when screentested might be asked back... It is not unusual for the BBC to do this on the News 24 set during Breakfast.

Equally, by watching off-air recordings from regional shows you can see how "network" a presenters style is - and whether they would suit a nationwide bulletin.

Sky may screentest their talent overnight on-air though I hear...

All Lucy Meacock is doing is a bit on the site for ITN. She's basically taken on Lucy Owen's role since she quit ITV - but frankly isn't in with a chance of making the break into the weekday news teams.

The Weekend news is also pretty low profile at the moment compared to even just a year ago - and will continue to be so as long as the Saturday bulletins go out at the ridiculous times of 4.30pm and 11.45pm.

Whatever happened to Leyla Deybelge - is she still with the London team or has she now moved on completely?

With what evidence are you basing this assumption upon?

Well she's just doing a bit of overtime really isn't she, it does get her noticed but I would imagine if she wasn't doing it they would pluck someone else who was good enough to do the weekend news. Which is pretty much how Lucy Meacock got the job anyway as Brekkie says.

Unlikely that she would end up on any of the weekday programmes (on a regular basis at least).

I am sure the ITV Local Granada site has a piece in which she is interviewed on the Granada Reports set.

Lucy Meacock alludes to having just refused an offer to take a job in London. The interview must have been filmed in last few months.

But Lucy Owen used to occasionally stand in on the ITV Lunchtime and Evening news during weekdays, especially Fridays so I wouldnt be surprised if Lucy Meacock also did so in the future.

I dont think Leyla has been at ITN since the closure of the ITV News channel, unless she has done London bulletins - ive certainly not seen her.
