Might be worth watching the Lunchtime News today - Katie Derham just said she's doing it with Nina. I've seen two females present together on the BBC, but I can't ever remember it happening on ITV.

I vaguely recall Mary and Katie hosting something together - though I might have just imagined that. Always thought when they shared the Evening News role that when Mark (or Dermot) was off they should opt for the two of them instead.
I'd have thought by now though ITV would have realised they only need one presenter for the Lunchtime News - and it wouldn't surprise me that when News at Ten returns with it's duel-headed format to see the Lunchtime edition cut back to one presenter.
Nice to see Lucy back presenting. With the rumours about News at Ten returning and her suddenly turning up on ITV News, I genuinely thought that she was being trialled for it, and that it was to come from Granada Studios or something. They should launch a proper weekend bulletin rather than just having it at whatever time and whatever presenter. If they used Lucy & the Granada Reports set, then it means that they could easily get other regional news presenters to have ago, as all of the sets are identical.

why would they want to use the Granada set? It is produced by ITN and so will come from their facilities.
All regional sets are identical and by doing it that way, more presenters can have a go at the weekend news, and they can just project the usual ITN images onto the screen behind. ITN might be considering other regional presenters to have a go, but they simply can't travel.
Why should regional presenters be confined to their regions and not be allowed to explore new territory? Some are too good for regional news and need noticing from other news companies as some deserve bigger jobs.
Well if they are good enough, they will get noticed on their respective regional shows. ITV News isn't some sort of talent contest - the reason Lucy sometimes presents the weekend news is that she is now one of the pool of weekend presenters. No trialling, no "giving her a go" - it's her role, one which she got through just generally being good. I'm sure if a similar role came up, they would look amongst their own shows to fill it, but I doubt they would go down the route of having a different random presenter each week, just to give them "a go".
Not give many trials, just maybe 2-3 others who have been offered but had to decline through not being able to get to London because of other commitments. Or perhaps by having it coming from Manchester, Lucy could be permanent weekend anchor.
If all people were picked through being spotted on their regional programs, then 95% of them would come from London Tonight.

Our regional news is presented by Richard Bath, who was on the ITN News Channel and the National News. So talent does go back to the regions as well as gravitating towards London.

Richard also used to anchor London Plus, before BBC South East regional news moved to Elstree and Newsroom South East launched with Guy Michelmore.
