ITV News is going to be broadcast in widescreen from December, about time too! (confirmed on Digital Spy)
Digital Spy posted:
ITV's national and regional news output will be broadcast in widescreen from December.

ITN's first networked ITV news programme in widescreen will be the 05:30 bulletin on Sunday, December 2.

With the exception of Westcountry's regional news programmes, all regional news and weather programming on ITV will go out in widescreen starting with December 2's lunchtime bulletins. Westcountry will continue to broadcast its local programmes in 4:3 for now.

It is about time.
I hate the way that they zoom in on it for digital TV currently, especially when they air footage of what was a widescreen broadcast (namely sport) as they air the 4:3 footage of a 16:9 product but then zoom in on it to make it whatever size it is now!

Does this include Channel TV?
I take it that nothing will change straight away as I guess that the graphics will have been made as widescreen straight off.

I know, I can't understand why for all this time they haven't just broadcast in normal 4:3 like it should be but I'm glad that its changing to widescreen next month.

I presume that Channel TV will be in widescreen being as it says that all of the regional output will be but I'm still not that 100% sure! Confused

I doubt Channel TV will be, they don't broadcast anything in widescreen at the moment, including network programming.

Anyone know why Westcountry can't go widescreen yet?

The studios don't have the ability to film in widescreen but are currently being upgraded and will be sorted soon. The other story I have heard is that the studios that it comes from will no longer be needed for ITV Westcountry with the merges coming into effect.

What annoys me is they have just shown a clip of X Factor at the start to do with Emily leaving, but its terribly pixellated even though if they just put X Factor on and cropped the sides off rather than zooming in it would look a lot better. Good news about the widescreen issue. I hope this is when the promised tweaks come into place.

Thats quite surprising...

No Mark...?
No Alistair?
No James?

Although I do feel Bill should have a more permanent role...

Sorry I meant in terms of presenting...

By the way Geraint hasnt been on since the Rugby has he??

ITV News has so much talent but Mark is overly used.

I would love to see Phil Gayle moved onto a daytime news slot... but lets hope he impresses the bosses doing the morning news...

Jon Gilbert is very scary. He stares into the camera... great newreading skills for a horror film tho Laughing

Not sure who the reporter was doing the evening news live from Warwickshire tonight. But there was a problem with the final VT so quickly signed off for the end of the programme - but committed the mortal sin of saying:

"goodbye from the Weekend Team at ITN" Shocked

I thought they were never supposed to mention ITN on ITV News!

Followed quickly by the off camera sound of three bullets to the head.

Steve Scott. Lucy Meacock was in the studio (and for those of you who always ask this, it was the London studios. Not from Manchester).
