There was no time for a full bulletin tonight due to the rugby

Presumably the summary aired at a different time on STV as they left the rugby 10 minutes earlier than network

Technically the rugby has nothing to do with it - it was ensuring Strictly Come Dancing didn't have a 15-minute head start on The X Factor which resulted in the short bulletin. Early schedules had The X Factor starting at 6.15pm.

More over, it's the classic ITV problem of craming far too many programmes into the Saturday night schedule, with the much unwanted National Movie Awards causing most the problems tonight - though really tonight's Scotland v Italy match should warrant ITV1 coverage nationwide considering it's been ear-marked from the start as one of the key matches in the pool stages.

Now we know when ITV ask them to jump, OFCOM ask how high - but I thought ITV had to have a 15-minute bulletin between 6pm and 11.30pm at the weekend.

Yet tonight there was a 5-minute summary at 6pm, with the main news airing at 11.55pm.

Most weeks there seems to be a bulletin on Saturday around 5.30pm, with the later sometimes as late as 11.40pm.

I think it's outrageous too. Who the hell is watching for news at MIDNIGHT!!??

Did anybody see the unusual version of the itv titles at 6pm? They didn't have any bongs and nor was it a summary opening - it was kind of a full self contained titles sequence withoug bongs about 15 seconds long. I'd never seen them before!

I take it there was no regional news bulletin tonight then, so the one at lunchtime was the only regional bulletin today.

ITV1 had plenty of time for a 15 minute bulletin - The first X Factor show could have been 1 hour from 6.15pm-7.15pm.

The regional bulletin was apparantly during the rugby, presumably at half time

the ITV Morning News is also at the earlier time of 4am this morning due to the F1

The local news was at 4.50, during the Rugby, but it was only about 3 or 4 minutes long.

but lets not.

He was not named to protect those he's coming into contact with from a vile, mass murdering regime.

did anybody capture the end of the Evening News yesterday... Bill and Mary started their catwalk, then different angle and they started it again. Surely it isn't pre-recorded, so how could this have happened?

It is pre-recorded. The jib camera operator is only at ITN for certain hours of the day. Therefore, they pre-record the moving camera shots while he/she is in work. The same thing happened on other occasions, too. It makes ITV News look very cheap.

i know budgets are tight at ITV currently, but that really is ludicrous.

thanks for setting me straight, and I couldn't agree more... it really does make it look cheap.

live satellite links wherever possible as pre-recorded reports aren't up-to-the-minute and exciting enough, then they go and tape the end of the bulletin at a quarter past four.

i'm dissapointed. Sad
