Is today the first time that the local news has been on past 7pm on a Saturday night?

As for the floor, that's an improvement.

Well the floor is the least of their problems.

Would like to see the late bulletin adopt a darker scheme like the old News at Ten.

[I still am itching to know why 'tweaks' such as getting the presenters to sit down are taking such a bloody long time to come into effect. Is it that difficult to tell Mary Nightingale to park her arse on a stool? ]

I think people may be putting a lot of faith in a couple of unattributed quotes in MediaGuardian, supposedly linked to Mark Sharman's office. Just 'cos it's in the papers, doesn't make it true....

Indeed, all these reports of going "back to basics" are just ITV putting a positive spin on the effects of cost-cutting at ITN.

I take it that the cost cutting is coming from ITV in the first place, surely ITN wouldn't make cost cuts if ITV provided them with more money, or a sufficient amount.

What I don't understand is that ITV are making cuts across the board, much the same as the BBC, where the hell is all the money in TV going??

Advertisers now spend more money on the internet than on TV. I think that might be your answer.

ITV's Julian Manion is about to have a live interview with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran. They are using the Breaking News straps.

The presenters are all over the place this week. Mark and Nina on Monday, but on the Lunchtime News that day they said it would be Mark and Mary, yesterday the LN said it would be Mark and Nina, when it was actually Steve and Nina, and today they said it would be Nina and James, but it is Mary and James. What is going on?

I love it how ITVs interview was exclusive for about 15 mins... Jon Snow is about to interview the Iranian president now on 4!

And Steve Scott is so much better than James Mates!

What are ITV News playing at?! The Evening "News" consisted of:

1) Foot and mouth
2) Ahmadinejad Interview
3) Madeleine
4) Gorillas

Where's the rest of the day's news? Having watched that, I feel as though I haven't learnt a thing. Yes, the interview was a scoop for ITV News, but couldn't they have had the common sense to cut the headlines recap and gorilla story in order to provide a better coverage of the news? I don't know what is going through the editor's mind at the moment Shocked

Totally agree Robert.

While it was a scoop with a capital S getting that interview, to do it Live proved they were a bit out of their depth as he repeatedly turned the question back on Mannion "..but i want to know your opinion . . . ." " No I am just a correspondent.."

The evening news (and the 6 on beeb1 is guilty sometimes) should just report news and not try and create stories.
