Steve Scott works on ITV West News now so doesn't appear during the week.

James Mates is only a relief presenter anyway, now it's September he'll be back to his once a week apperances on the 10.30

Considering back in the days of the ITV News Channel they had loads of presenters and people complained there was no set pattern, now with so many either leaving for other channels, other jobs on ITV, retiring or being no longer required, they have got quite a small team, and almost a shortage at holiday times

Romily Weeks is presenting on Saturday.

That's also compounded by Trevor McDonald and John Suchet retiring. In any case, Alastair Stewart should definitely get the 10.30, reducing Mark Austin to just the Evening News. I also think the Lunchtime News should go back to one presenter, with Katie Derham at the helm.

Amen.

NB Trevor, retired? Have you missed the joyous televisual car crash that is News Knight? Like an enema performed with jagged shades of slate. But brilliant for that. Suchet was underrated I think, a lovely calm authority and soft with it, not like some of Austin's barking perorations.

Sir Trev technically only retired from presenting the ITN news, which is why he still did News Knight which I hope to God is returning for a second series.

I agree, the problem with ITV News is its presenters. Many of them have shrill, harsh voices which doesn't appeal to viewers. I think Andrea Catherwood had a pleasant style, but she had a weird habit of smiling whilst delivering horrific details of genocide etc.

Whats wrong with Mark Austin tonight?
He seems to be cocking up every sentence tonight. He's not the best of presenters at the best of times!

Anyone else notice that the newspaper background was more blue tonight than teal:

EDIT: Also, the regional news seems around 3 or 4 minutes longer. Rolling Eyes

I personally didn't notice any problems tonight, but I agree that he's not a great presenter. He certainly doesn't have the authority of Trevor McDonald or John Suchet when they did the late news. What annoys me most is his sign-off. It sounds so disjointed and a bit backwards too. I hate the "those are tomorrow's headlines, and that was tonight's news". I cringe at that every night. But then, he goes on to say something like "but from me, it's goodnight, and thanks for watching". Why does he say goodnight first, and end on "watching"? Why not say "From me, thank you for watching, and goodnight". That would be more logical.
