"The ITV chief also responded to reports that ITV executive chairman Michael Grade wants to move the 10.30pm ITV1 news.

Mr Shaps admitted that 10.30pm "seems an imperfect place", but said it is "incredibly difficult" to see where else in the schedule to put the late evening bulletin.

He confirmed that changes are being made to the style of the bulletin, as revealed by MediaGuardian.co.uk, saying: "We've pushed some of the gimmickry too far."

Move it to 10pm, have it go all out war with the BBC's offering.

was lucy presenting the news from manchester? it coul;d well have been possible as the set was just a static cso screen, it could have been viable that she just read the news and it was fed back to grays inn road?

brill though lucy is, just seems strange the network dragged her all the way down from manchester to do a 5 minute summary? when they have ample newsreaders down in london that could have covered. is she doing the full news bullitin tonight around 7 ish

She will obviously be fronting both the 6.40 bulletin and the 11pm one. ITN would have a regional newsreader travel all the way down to London for 5 minutes on screen.

It does seem strange. They did the same with Sameena Ali-Khan a few months ago. They must've been impressed with Lucy Meacock to invite back!

I don't think Lucy will leave Granada Reports in the near future but I wouldn't object to her becoming a weekend anchor for ITV News. I think she is professional enough and deserving of the role.

There is an interview with Lucy on Granada's ITV Local site. She says she was offered a job in London a few years ago but turned it down. She says she'll always stay in the North West

They often use regional presenters on the national at weekend. Lucy Owen from ITV Wales used to be ive not seen her on the national for a while. And Sameena from Central News as Roger said. Its a good opportunity for them to present on ITV National news.

I would love it if we could have a different regional newsreader at the Weekends every week. Alternating, eg: Someone from North Tonight one week, then Scotland Today the next, etc. Never going to happen though, is it? Sad

I've heard 12th September is the date for when Michael Grade, at a business review, will make an official announcement as to the changes (if any) coming to ITV News.

This is the day he will report the results of a review of its budgets. So we're likely to hear about heavy investments in new long-running drama, but the News is likely to get a mention too.

All speculation though.

But surely this whole "dragging" regional presenters down is quite normal..... Lucy Owen from Wales and Steve Scott from the West tonight......
