I don't often post in this thread as I normally avoid ITV News like the plague, but I think that the format does need a desparate revamp.

I think what's hapenned to the bulletins in the last few years can be summed up by these two videos.

The first minute and a half of the News at Nine on the day of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. By this time the rot had definitely started to set in, but it still had an air of authority around it, and actually gave us the news in a decent format without over-sensationalising it.

The Evening News , recorded in June. This time, everything is black and white, there's no real authority around the news, and it's just tabloidy and rubbish.

I hope these 'tweaks' that are due will bring about a better ITV News in time. (I'd really like to see the Early Evening News reinstated at 5:30 or 5:45, followed up to 7 by regional programming, but that's wishful thinking.)

ITV News is in dire need of refreshing. I uploaded that video in June and said to myself 'Christ this is crap'. Too much emphasis on showbiz-type stories and not enough hard news IMO.

Oh, cheers for referencing my vid btw Very Happy

They're opening is far too long and cheesy. I also think they should never of got rid of their bong thing. Great music in the late 90s.

I'd like to see the opening refreshed, with all headlines before the logo forms (a little like BBC News).

As well as cleaner, more professional graphics, the news should be the focus with much less of the tabloidy melodramatic language. Scare tactics should be abolished.

It would be nice to see the Evening news moved back to 5.30 / 5.45 with the News at Ten making a 'triumphant' return to weeknights. That is unlikely to ever happen though.

I don't see the point in having a return to the News at 10 because the BBC have that slot now.

Some of the presenters have adopted a tabloidy-American way of presenting like Nina, Katie and Geraint. They should all be dropped.

Geraint must have been bored, you can see on the back of his papers "NEWS" with some shapes and scribbles around it.
Also, lets hope we don't see his Elvis impression, we've already had George's Laughing

James Mates looked quite happy when it came to Geraint Vincents sports report on the Late News. For some strange reason...

I'm imagining George's Elvis impression....

In terms of the music, those two clips highlight how crap the current stuff is. That music from 2001 makes me get goosebumps, especially when it is combined with those dramatic images of September 11th. The current music is so uninspiring - it doesn't have any authority whatsoever. I don't want them to ditch the signature tune or the bongs (I think they'd be very foolish to do that, as it is arguably the most recognised news theme in history) but I would like a re-mix to be done to bring back some of its former charm.

I may be a bit behind the times but why is Katie hosting some of the Proms on the BBC? I presume she does some freelance work.

I think Katie presenting the Prom on BBC2 may have been something of a special event as she hasn't presented those on BBC4. BTW, she did an excellent job and it was a great concert.
Given that Katie is still known primarily as an ITV news reader and there's no obvious conflict between that and her work in the classical music arena (which recently included Face the Music 2007, again on the BBC) I would imagine that ITN/ITV are perfectly happy for her to present or appear on these programmes.
