As for journalism, well...

Mark Austin is only overused on paper, but I wouldn't have any objections to Alastair Stewart being the first choice anchor for the late bulletin.
Also, because of the summer holidays, Nina Hossain has been on the Evening and/or Lunchtime News five days a week for the last five weeks and, as far as I'm concerned, that definitely hasn't worked (though you can't fault her work ethic). I think she's better on her own over the weekends.

Hopefully someone with good judgement will be in charge of any changes; simple and elegant is what they should be aiming for with the design and presentation. As has been mentioned above, dropping the sometimes melodramatic approach and not emphasising gimmicks like 'Uploaded', which isn't ready for a regular slot on the programme, would be obvious and easily implemented improvements.

In another twist, there could be some changes in news anchors. With the departure of Kirsty Young from Five News to focus on Desert Island Discs, the broadcaster is on the lookout for a big name to replace her.

Possibilities are reported to include ITV's Nightingale , the BBC's Sophie Raworth and GMTV's Kate Garraway.

If Mary does move to Five, we could have Nina replace her. I'm sure most TVF-ers would like that. Very Happy Also, I agree with a previous poster that Al Stewart should replace Mark at 10.30.

EDIT: OK, Alex wouldn't really like the Nina replacing Mary part. I agree with you, Alex that she is good on her own, but I don't think she should be shunted to the weekend bulletins, when she is such a big part of ITV News now.

Unfortunately Nina's presentation style doesn't work for me, particularly on the longer programmes, which is why I prefer her on the shorter, snappier weekend bulletins.

Worth noting that the Sunday evening bulletin attracts ITV News's biggest audience of the week.

Sunday Evening's bulletin usually gets around the same amount of viewers as the Evening News, or just a little bit more. The Evening News is on 5 times a week.

I think Nina is best alone. It would be great if the Lunchtime bulletin was solo anchored. She'd suit that.

As people have said, Alastair Stewart should be on the Late news. And the Lunchtime news should be moved to 12.30pm!

Oh dear, we have descended into a fantasy roster spiral...

So if Mary goes to 'Five', Katie can present the Evening News with Mark, Nina can present the Lunchtime News on her own and Alastair can present the late news.

...sorry, I couldn't help myself Embarassed

Edit: I still think Nina would be better at the weekends.

I would rather Mary went to five, I just dont like her style at all, and I cant put my finger on what it actually is!
I'm not going into my ideal line up, but I think Nina would be good on ITV News at 10.30, a woman anchoring the main bulletin would be intresting.

That sounds like a good line-up to me. Then Geraint Vincent could be banished from presenting duties forever! I really do think Alastair deserves the late news. After all, he lost the battle for it in 1992 and let's face it, he's a million times better than Mark Austin.

I'm glad ITV has finally realised that these gimmicks are crap. I've never been a fan of all this standing up to present the news. I've also noticed on the BBC Six O'Clock News that they are sitting down much more recently. It looks like everything is coming full circle and we're going back to proper presentation.

I know this is probably wishful thinking but if ITV do make changes to the news, I would like them to refresh the music again. I really do think ITV should go back to something a little more orchestral. They're never going to beat David Lowe's style for BBC News, so I think they should go in a different direction. The current music doesn't have any authority. Recently, I was watching a video clip on YouTube of the opening sequence of the ITV News Special on 9/11 and the horrifying images together with that old orchestral theme made me get goosebumps. I don't think that could ever happen with the current theme tune.

I'm not sure that I like the idea of solely sitting down, especially for all bulletins, some, such as the 1030 should be sat more, where as the standing starts and ends of lunchtime and evening are a perfect way to begin or end the programme in my opinion.

If you look back, the old set was a better set up in terms of desk and big screen, even though the theatre of news was a good idea, I don't think its been used well enough, especially not nowadays. I suppose in the days of the channel when the flooded the floor with graphics used it much better.

Suprised ITV Tyne Tees had an advert break at 18:26 - did any other regions?

I assume www.itvlocal.com/london is being tested for a new look?
