Well currently, the Lunchtime News uses a split screen, because they dont have a camera in position for the newswall, or something like that.
Evening/Nightly news still uses the newswall though.
I don't really understand this report though, does it mean there changing the graphics for something more simple? or just stopping the animations?
Also, if they are stopping the standing up, the studio will have to be tweaked, its designed to be used stood up more than at the desk, maybe they will remove the walkway which leads to the desk, to make it feel like the newswall is seperate?

The studio would be pointless without the presenter standing up. They should revamp the studio, or tweak it via removing the 'walkway'.

Or they could use the rest of the studio for having reporters in the studio, doing a piece to camera such as the BBC News feature at the moment.

I think ITV News should return to its quality circa early 2005 towards the end of 2005. The quality was great, there was dedication and no alarmism or silly graphics.

They just need to tell their writers not to write in such apocalyptic terms EVERY day and save the sense of drama for stories that really merit it.

At the moment you can tell that they've been told to ramp up the melodrama and it is painful to watch.

Slightly OT I drove past an ITN OB Truck earlier and it seemed to have sported the orange ITN logo with some slogan on it, this was about 12.30pm-ish so I guess it was in a rush to be live for 1.30pm.

(This being to do with the dad being murdered by the teenagers in Warrington story BTW)

This does seem to be a backtrack on the "theatre of news" idea.

If they are going back to basics, you have to question the need for the huge newswall if all it's going to do is provide a backdrop.

They may as well just put a small studio back in the newsroom somewhere in Grays Inn Road.

Just take a look back at ITV News over the years and you can see what's gone wrong and what needs to be done.

While I would say quality of journalism is important, I do not think that TV news in general should go back to crap graphics off the 70s and early 80s. TV news has come on leaps and bounds with its look since the cardboard cut out days.

Television is a visual medium, so graphics do go a long way to tell the story, as many other news organisations have used to their advantage.

I really liked the look of ITV News when the theatre of news was adopted during the blocks era.

The revamp since then is dire and I also think that the ITV regional news graphics and titles are to be polite crap. I had high hopes back in February 2004 but it all seems to have gone to pot now.

As for journalism, well I think that Nina Hossain is underused and that Mark Austin is overused; I think that they need to get Alistair Stewart in instead of Mark Austin to front the flagship late bulletin. They also need to give the bulletin a decent title. We have the ITV Lunchtime News and the ITV Evening News and then the ITV News at 10.30 (why not try consistency without using times - ITV Late News would be better ??)

I think that the presenting team is not as good as the BBC, and while all the Tash bashers may want to lynch me now for being a turn coat, I think that the wealth of talent on offer suffered after the news channel closed.

However my main recommendation is to get rid of the current garish ITN production graphic at the end of each bulletin. The 'plain' ITN logo with the copyright, year etc is quite sufficient thank you very much.

IMO, the ITV news set looks best when they are sitting down, and they have the graphics behind them. I envision that is what they mean for the "less graphics". I wonder if there will be set tweaks to remove the perspex walkway.

I was only voicing aloud my thoughts. It has been reported that there will merely be tweaks - so viewers aint expecting fireworks!!
I suppose there will be minor alterations if presenters are to remain seated.

Ah, I wasn't ridiculing you! I was just merely stating my thoughts on the set. TBH, I only read a part of your post!

Yeah - it was rather long wasn't it. I was not implying you were slagging me off -only utilising an opportunity to clarify my post.
