Blimey... I was only thinking the other day that Lucy had been with Granada a long time and would be good on a national bulletin. Great stuff, she's great.
I think ITV News should do this more often at weekends, having regional newsreaders on. I would like to see Louise White from Scotland Today nationally.
Also, I take it Lucy Owen won't be making regular appearances anymore, since Nina is back?
I don't think Lucy Meacock is actually from Manchester - I think she's actually from Chester. (She writes a column in the local paper).
I've always rated her quite highly though despite how bad Granada Reports has become - that's mainly down to the distinct lack of chemistry between her and her incapable co-host!
I saw her too, but didn't have a clue who she was. Quite impressive as well, for what appears to be a first time.
EDIT: Does anybody know how these regional presenters are able to present the nationals, e.g are they asked or can THEY ask/ 'put their name down' so to speak? Thanks for any clarification.

I imagine if the national news require someone to stand in on their bulletins they offer it to a regional presenter depending on who is available. I doubt most would turn down the chance to read the news on national tv.
Lucy Owen hasnt been on ITV Wales for a couple of weeks so no idea where she is - infact its been a bit all over the place for a few weeks on ITV Wales with 6pm people presenting on GMTV Wales for example not that im complaining!
Lucy seems to be doing really well on the national news so far. Really, I shouldn't sound so surprised...she's been presenting Granada Reports since the 1980s! Her appearance nationally is
long
overdue. Let's hope this is the beginning of a stint on the national news for her, though logic is telling me it is probably a one-off.
And to confirm, Lucy is from Chester, so she is not a Mancunian. Maybe it is with being from the North West myself, but I can't distinguish an accent.
I think Lucy could move ITV News forward if they made her the anchor host, she is doing really well tonight but its whether she would want to leave Granada Reports. Nobody can really say Granada Reports is bad- they have won 3 awards so far this year, no other regional news program has ever done that.
Ann would probably replace Lucy if Lucy was to move to ITV News permanently

Yes, I wonder if Lucy would leave GR if she was offered something permanent at ITN? As was said earlier, Lucy is not the problem with GR...she never has been. It's her male co-presenters that have left a lot to be desired.
I must say that it is refreshing to see a mature woman reading the national ITV News, instead of all the young women they usually use (Nina, Katie, Lucy Owen, Romilly etc.).

It would be good to Lucy doing more Nationally and I believe Ann O'Connor is a perfect Replacement. In fact, Ann has done very well to sit in the background for so long.
On the closing there, I noticed Lucy was sat at the left of the desk, not in the middle, as there usually is with one anchor.
I wonder if this will become the norm?
When Ann sits in as Lucy never does a full week, I think she fits the part pretty easily- and she also gels well with Tony. So if Lucy was ever to leave, that would make the most sense then the blonde chubby woman being next in line? But PLEASE not Kate Giffard
