OH
I see a connection starting here - working in local news with the name Lucy!
First Lucy Alexandra then Lucy Owen and now Lucy Meacock! I wonder who could be next.
You could here a slight Mancunian hint to her voice but nothing too off-putting.

Don't mind Lucy Meacock, nice to see her on the national news.
Coincidence that the lead story today is the Manchester murders.

You could here a slight Mancunian hint to her voice but nothing too off-putting - you could still tell that she has been taken up The Arndale a few times.
I think you have made Disgustung Comments and Crossed a Line.
For one reason, there is nothing wrong with a Mancunian Accent, I am from Manchester and very proud of that Link.
Also, it isn't nice to make the comments "you could still tell that she has been taken up The Arndale a few times".
The comments are totally disgusting and out of order. I demand an Apology.

I Did not read That comment as ohwhatanight Saying That the Mancunian accent was bad in itself - but any accent (with The Possible exception Of Welsh) Is Unusual on a national News Bulletin.
We have Had people On This forum before taking umbrage on behalf of various ITV people and companies, but this Is Ridiculous.
I demand that OWAN does Not Apologise, and others get a Sense Of humour.
And that they Learn Where Caps Need not be Used.

IF
anyone was
really
offended - then apologies.
But this is national network television and it is rare that you have a presenter with a strong regional accent. Imagine someone Welsh or from Birmingham presenting the national news? It just doesnt happen! Just because it doesnt happen doesnt necessarily mean that I agree with that decision but its just the way it is!
As I originally hinted it was acceptable to hear the feint Mancunian accent that Lucy had - if it was really thick it would've been quite off-putting! The same as if Lucy Owen was presenting the national news with a thick North-Walian accent!
Nation news seems to attract quite neutral sounding accents for a reason....

OH
Huw Edwards?
I was thinking of him as an example and is about the strongest regional accent you will hear. As Welsh accents go though it's still fairly neutral to how bad it could be!

Kirsty Wark on Newsnight has a distinctly scottish accent as does Sarah Smith on C4 News.
It's not really a very good point you've made, and a sweeping generalisation.

Agreed, Square Eyes.
What about all the correspondents? There are loads from Scotland and Northern Ireland: Denis Murray, Mark Simpson, Isla Traquair - the first three to appear in my mind. How about weather forecasters? Carol Kirkwood. On top of that, there are hundreds of network announcers who have strong regional accents. How about Channel 4? Everytime I tune in, it is a Geordie accent announcing the programmes. Next time you're abroad, tune in to BBC World and have a listen to Lyse Doucet's accent! If anything, "posh" accents are in the minority on TV!

No nothing wrong with that at all. I love a Mancunian accent, and a Liverpool/scouse accent as well.
I wish I had a Manc or scouse accent but then I love my Welsh accent and hate it when people take the piss out of it.
Missed the ITV News today but ive seen Lucy on Granada Reports and I like her.
