It looked like a live close to tonight's News at 10.30. I wonder why they pre-recorded last night's and tonight's Evening News (which, by the way, looked awful. It was so obvious that it was pre-recorded)?

It's live, but they've stopped using the jib.

I don't think last night's evening news ending was pre-recorded. I think they just accidentally put a still wideshot which had been captured earlier in the programme. It did look very cheap and shoddy though.

No, it was definitely pre-recorded. I wound it back on Sky+ and you could see the layout of the papers on the desk was different and Mark's pen disappeared.

interesting ending to tonights eveninng news the shot at the desk ended with james's pen on the desk yet a second later on the wide shot he had it in his hand. Was this another pre recorded end.

It looked very much like it. On both occasions (last night and tonight) the newsreaders have quickly turned to look at one another immediately after signing off. It then cuts straight to the pre-recorded close with the two of them looking at each other. It looks really fake and cheapens ITV News.

Oh sorry, misunderstanding. I thought you meant the ending, where the camera moved. Or are you talking about that? I meant the still shot of the studio that flashed on screen. That was a definate pre-record.

Yes, I'm talking about both. The wideshot that flashed on screen was the first frame of the cued up pre-recorded closing sequence.

Oh right! I thought the ending yesterday started from the front of the desk and moved around?

Nope, it started from that wideshot and moved towards the desk, eventually panning right in front of the presenters.

Nice to see Lucy Meacock of Granada Reports presenting the News Summary just then.

Are the pre-rec closes (I haven't seen them) so that the London regional news can go out from the same studio or gallery? Giving a few extra seconds to change things
