Mary is back in Praia Da Luz, and will be speaking to the Kate and Gerry McCann on the Evening News.
Why?
It's ridiculous isn't it. I think you've said this, but I'll say it again...why is ITV (in particular) giving so much interest to a story that was caused by the carelessness of two parents.
You'll burn for saying that
You have a point though, why can't ITV News just update us if something
actually
happens?
I don't normally catch the Lunchtime News, but I did today, and what a mess the programme is from what it was a few years ago.
The headlines at the start of the programme was all mucked up, when it went to Tyne Tees for the 'coming up at 1:50' their was no sound as Kenny Toal was speaking and then he was cut off, with a black screen, then with Romilly Weeks saying 'Now Breaking news this lunchtime..' , carrying on as normal - no sorries at the start or end of the programme.
After the opening report with Bill Neely they went over to america for one of CNN's jounalists, (I think) who basically repeated what Bill said, totally pointless it was, (just filling airtime?). In the programme they only seemed to be keen on telling viewers what was coming up, and advert breaks - their wasn't much national and international news at all.. and finally, the rogramme does not suit two presenters, it should be just Katie Derham by herself.
On the evening news the journalist they interviewed from NBC, Ian Williams, was Channel 4 New's Asia correspondant up until about 6 months ago. Wondered where he had gone!
Any other regions fail to opt out of the Lunchtime News headline sequence? I thought if a region failed to opt out then they would get the London feed but here on UTV we just got the rotating clock face.

Unlike BBC1, London's news and regional progs aren't used as a sustainer on the ITV1 network feed (similarly if the ads fail you'd get an ITV1 logo, not London's ads). However if there is a serious problem with one of the regional news STC will put a nearby region onto another region, I presume the same is true for NTC (no idea what STV and UTV would do though).

That has happened a few times recently on Tyne Tees. Once where the lunchtime news finished early, and a large ITV1 logo came on screen with a black background, and of course in the past where ITV Border joined ITV Tyne Tees, because they had a flood and were unable to broadcast.
All change to ITV regional news from Monday 4th June, then.
You'll find that the regional headlines at 13:30, 18:50 and 22:30 have been scrapped.
Also, no more handovers from and to the national programme from Grays Inn Road; the regional bulletins at 13:55 and 22:55 will become separate programmes and no longer part of the national bulletin.
