No he has done a few Evening News editions in the studio - only a handful, but he's definately done some.

Has Nina Hossain cropped up again on the Evening News yet?

I think the coverage this debacle is getting is over the top.

But the family want the news to stay in the spotlight, and we're still talking about it here, aren't we...?

I'm sure lots of families need help from the media it doesn't necessarily mean they should get it. It isn't even as if she's missing in the United Kingdom, there is little to report and what is is blown completely out of proportion. Out of all child kidnappings, why have individual donors put over 2 million together for this one? Especially since this case happens to be getting a great amount of attention by itself. I don't mean to be rude and I understand your good natured intentions, but I doubt you have changed your personal banner for other missing children. Basic fact is, if the media didn't report it, people wouldn't care about it. The cases which are chosen are there for their story-like-quality and there ability to make people watch or buy papers, not because David Mannion or Paul Dacre cry themselves to sleep at night worrying about it.

I don't know about others but I talk about this piece of news because it's coverage I find distasteful in the extreme, not because I wish it to remain on our screens.

I agree entirely.

I used to work in news media a few years ago, and we were always amazed that certain cases would get so much media attention while others didn't. It seems every year, there is a case that becomes high profile because of the media coverage.

Its one thing if there are new developments to report (like the formal suspect they announced today), but much of the media coverage over the last few days has just been repitition, because there's been nothing new to report.

Who was it who got in trouble last year for stating the obvious about middle class missing children and slow news periods - think it was someone to do with the Soham investigation, possible the officer who led the enquiry IIRC.

He was right then, and he's right now!

It was Sir Ian Blair, commissioner of the Met. He was 100% correct.

Mary was back in the studio tonight. I wonder how long Mark will stay in Portugal?

It was pointless Mary going in the first place when Mark was there - why didn't he just present the evening news and the 10.30?! They have like 3 or 4 other reporters there anyway... Confused

Mark was the last sent to Portugal.

Mary presented the Evening News from Portugal on Friday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Mark's first broadcast from there was on Tuesday night.

Yeah, but I meant because they blatently want Mark rather than Mary on the 10.30 so he may as well have done the evening news as well...

It would have made more sense to have mark there in the first place, with Mary in the studio for both the Evening News and at 10.30.

Romilly Weeks presented yesterday's bulletins, shame I thought she would be back as just a reporter, with Nina supposedly being back (she's only done one bulletin since 'coming back' from maternity leave).
