I realise that the Evening News isn't being shown in Scotland tonight, but it's jaw-dropping that they're leading on the missing toddler rather than the elections.

Yes. ITV Wales were the only ITV region (as far as I know) to show full overnight coverage.

Seriously?! Confused

Channel 4 have got Jon Snow up in Scotland as well as their political editor and various other reporters!

Probably the first time ever though both Mark and Mary have hosted a Friday edition!

ITV's coverage of the elections have been piss-poor though. The regional network has so much potential for local elections, and while I'm not surprised ITV didn't have live overnight coverage, even a 30-minute post-11pm regional special tonight would have added alot to the coverage of events - and be a far greater contribution than having the specials last night before most votes were counted.

I was pleased they didnt lead with the Elections, I mean, after the first story they spent most of the of the bulletin on it anyway!
However, I do think they should have had coverage last night.

Why did ITV News ignore the local elections across England, Scotland and Wales?BBC provided overnight coverage on BBC1 and BBC News24, BBC Parliament showed the Scottish Elections and Sky had overnight coverage too. Why not ITV News?Doesn't this show the contempt ITV News has for proper news, like the running of our local elected people? They should have had a overnight programme, at least to show that they do care about news and give viewers an alternative to BBC and Sky. But what do they show? That stupid Make your Play crap. What does people think?

Despite popular belief, ITV never has overnight programmes for the local elections, neither now or in the 'good old days' that you are probably thinking of.

The General Election is a completely different story

Agreed. Regionally it was poor, in Granadaland we had a special edition of 'Party People', but it would have been better if it was longer than half an hour, even if they carried on until 1.00am like they did last time, that would have been better than nothing.

Granted putting Election coverage instead of Glitterball or Con Your Play (or whatever it is) doesn't attract the money or the audience, but a little effort would have been appreciated.

Didn't touch the BBC's coverage at all, I watched a fair whack of Sky News this morning and they did a good job, also a rarity to see Kay Burley on TV before 12.00pm, anyway that's for the Sky News Thread.

As ITV was built on regional companies, it would have been the perfect opertunity to let the local news teams do their own coverage from 11am - 4am or more if they wanted.

Agreed.

I think ITV Wales went right through to the ITV Morning News at 5.30am.

What happened for the Scottish/Welsh elections in 2003, though? I'm pretty sure ITV did *something*.

Was STV's programme shown on the network? I think it might have been.

It was the same with the Lunchtime News, too. I was shocked that they didn't lead with the election. What could be more important? The missing toddler affects the family and a few friends on Merseyside. The election affects every single human being living in the UK. Editorially, how on earth did they get away with not leading with the election? As far as I'm concerned, ITV News has lost all credibility now.

Back then though they would have done something for the ITV News Channel, which probably was then simulcast on ITV1 overnight.
