He's a newsreader - he's on shift - that's why they use him!

I didn't rate him much at first at all but I think he's improved considerably in the last year.

Well, they shouldn't give him presenting shifts then! He's clearly not as good as the rest of the team, yet they use him all the time. I don't think he's improved at all...he's still as cringeworthy as when he started.

Aha but he is a journalist. Modern TV News has moved away from traditional, valued and much loved newsreaders - Mark Thompson said so!! Rolling Eyes

I think Geraint has improved very much in newsreading, but his camp voice gets on my nerves.

Did Alistair present any of the other bulletins today?

On other matters is it me or is the local elections graphics just a rehashed version of the last general election graphics!?!

No. Geraint has been on all other bulletins since yesterday.

I like how they used Alastair for tonight's news, it added a kind of importance to the show. I wonder why they used him though. And he did a really strange smile as if he was delivering good news just before Isla Traquair's dreary report on the Kent earthquake, that contained no good news (or any news, to be fair). And is the Moral of the Story live? If so, why would he stay at ITN to present it... who's awake at 00.05 on a Sunday night/Monday morning? And he works way too much anyway, presenting the weekday lunchtime bulletins. Good grief, imagine if the news channel was still around, he'd live at ITN (a bit like Owen Thomas and Steve Scott).

What - newsreaders don't actually live at ITN?

Actually, I'm sure you've just given someone, somewhere, the idea for how to move news into the next generation and combine it with reality TV - with viewers voting for who reads the evening bulletins, the graveyard shift - and of course, who is sent out to the middle of a warzone!

I highly doubt it, for the reasons you've mentioned.

An ITV News Special tonight, this from MG :

ITV1 has also rejigged its schedule following the conclusion of the Operation Crevice trial, with Britain's Biggest Bomb Plot - An ITV News Special replacing the advertised Tonight programme about Britain's roads.

BBC have an extra Panorama as well at 7pm.
