I just thought I'd share my views on the ITV News presentation..
They aren't in Widescreen, the sound quality in the ''Theatre of News'' and on reports is awful. Their screen resolution quality is really bad, and looks like something out of a movie. The graphics look tacky and too powepointy.
I hope ITV News will be getting a
major
shake-up soon, because it's crying out loud for it.
£250m - which sounds like more than they invested last time - so hopefully the extra money will show - and the "upgrade" will include the long overdue switch to widescreen, which now seems more likely since C4 have made the move.
Well it does say
"It is believed ITV decided to sign an early deal with ITN without putting the contract out for tender, as it did last time round when Sky News bid, because of the need to press ahead with technological improvements"
Which may point towards getting all the back end equipment upgraded for widescreen?
A post on DS claimed the same earlier today as this and also adds the News at Ten may return in the Winter schedule.
"ITV, which owns 40% of ITN, is investing more than £15m to upgrade ITN's newsroom as part of the deal." Am I stupid or does this mean the 'theatre of news' will be updated?
EDIT:
Quote:
ITN is to introduce a new desktop editing system and will train all journalists in using it.
As part of today's deal, which supersedes the current contract and runs to the end of 2012, ITN is integrating ITV News, which makes the ITV1 bulletins, and the London regional ITV news production teams.
Not too sure what this all means - maybe someone who's more in the know could fill me in?
Bringing back News at Ten - as believable as Wikipedia!
They're settled now at 10.30 and they shouldn't give in once again to the moaning minority who'd probably watch the BBC alternative anyway!
Yes, bringing back News at Ten might in the short-term solve the headache of what to schedule in that 30-minute slot - but in the long term they definately need to be thinking more about moving back to 11pm if anything - where they should have left the Nightly News in the first place IMO.
P.S. Update from Media Guardian says the contract is worth slightly less and there will be job cuts as a result of merging the ITV News and London Tonight production teams.
I'm glad ITN have secured the ITV contract once again. I feared that Sky would get it which would have inevitably meant the end for ITN. I don't think ITV News is that bad. I quite like its current look and music. My only two complaints are:
a) the sensationalist approach to the news;
b) the fact that it isn't yet in widescreen.
If they sorted those two out, I think it would be a step in the right direction.

a) the sensationalist approach to the news;
"There's some stuff happening. Some of it, bad. But what's the Government going to do about it?"
"Hello, I'm AlisDair Stewart. I'm standing up."
"And I'm Mary Nightingale. Ditto."
IMO
Dead Ringers
picked all the right holes in ITV News a few weeks back. And
News at Ten
needs to make a comeback.
So the headlines were failing to play at the start of the ITV Evening News, so they just dropped them and Mary apoligised and presented the top story. I wonder if this would of happened if we hadn't been talking about presentation etc for ITV News..
