Was Bill stood on a box for the standing up parts this evening as he did not move from the spot. At the end he just stood there shuffling his papers and i saw they kept turning blue which looked funny

They may be doing something behind the scenes for a Widescreen itv news. I'd guess that they are most probaly doing something with the walkway.

Or testing the new software and graphics if necessary.

The virtual studio really doesn't do the anchor any justice, Bill just didn't know where he was looking on the live link to Simon Harris. Then the graphics appeared partially on the newswall, and partially above it for the sports stories.

True. The whole thing's quite unnecessary. Why they can't just de-camp to the newsroom for the weekend is beyond me.

Present the national news from the newsroom? yeah right.

Remember BBC News went virtual before their last revamp, as did BBC News 24.

For ITV its even easier as they are used to using the virtual studio from the News Channel days

I have to say I only noticed that Bill was in the virtual studio at the end of the bulletin when he nearly disappeared.

The thing is the BBC's looked real even to us anoraks. With ITV's virtual world whilst average viewers may not notice it just looks absolutely awful to us. The newsroom may not be pretty but it's an option - I mean why not present from a section in the atrium? Or alternatively why not just shove them in a little CSO?

Why go to extra effort and expense when you already have a fully-functioning virtual replica of your 'real' set? It's only for a couple of days, and as you say very few people will notice.

I don't know how big your tv set is - but on my telly the chroma-key on the BBC News was DIRE for many weeks! It was blantantly obvious to anyone that the background was fake! You would've thought the one of the World's best broadcasters could've sorted out a simple chroma-key?

At least on the ITV news the fake background isnt' that apparent and the ITV Evening News I saw tonight looked as if it was from the virtual studio - the gradient of lighting on the background looked to smooth without much variation. Not many normal viewers would've noticed that!

It's only for two days rather than weeks - like the BBC News was!

So do we actually know what changes are taking place in the ITV News studio? Is it just simply a new desk, and a different backdrop on the newswall?

I think they going to do just that, not forgeting the new titles and theme music

I wonder if the new theme will be on KPM and by the same guys - Dave Hewson & Bill Bayliss.

Why would they use new theme music?

Well the National News is keeping the music, but The Regional music is gettinga tweak, and as yet, there is no sign of it on KPM, so perhaps RedBee are arranging a custom made theme or remix...
