It's normally six months maternity leave, isn't it?

No, I think it can go up to a year...There again I'm not too clued up about that so I'm not too sure. Mary took a year.

I think now it's six months, with a further three months (unpaid?) if you want it.

Mary was certainly off for quite a while - she left before Christmas and didn't return till around the September.

Also, considering Nina was barely off our screens when she was fronting ITV News she probably has about six months holiday built up too!

Nina isn't bad at all, but I prefer Katie really!

This week, I have noticed how good a newsreader Katie is, on her own.
I just don't understand why they have two presenting the Lunchtime News.
I do prefer Nina though. She deserves a long holiday, as she was never off our screens during the summer, and was always on hand to fill in.

You may have noticed that I too prefer Katie but, whether you favour Katie, Nina or Mary, fortunately there is space in the schedule for all three of ITN's main female news readers.

The pay aspect of maternity leave is very much employer specific but I would expect Nina to have the option of six months on full or close to full pay with a further six months at reduced or no pay, (which is significantly better than the current statutory minimum: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Workingparents/DG_10029290 ).
Anyway, it's really none of our business and as GMc has said, Nina deserves a rest Cool

I do prefer Mary to Katie, but Katie is definately up their with her.

As you say, the current version of the Lunchtime News doesn't warrant two presenters and would be better off returning to the one presenter format it had prior to being extended to an hour now it's back to 30-minutes.

And with Nicholas Owen leaving (has he gone yet?) , the opportunity was there. I'd have put Katie in as first choice, with Alistair their as back up - I think between them they'd still get plenty of airtime.

Anyhow, it's probably Katie's turn to get pregnant next? Or maybe Lucy's - what's going on there, she's been at ITV News for months and still isn't up the duff! Notice how the ITN fertility rate has dropped since Big Trev left! Laughing

I think this thread has reached an all time low

Discussing at length how much maternity leave you think Nina Hossain will have based on the national average? Laughing

This comes after yesterday's outrage over Katie Derham wearing a purple leather jacket

Not to mention the daily debates about whether you like Katie Derham or not, if you fancy Geriant Vincent, is he a Mark Austin clone etc

Have people always been so personal about the individual presenters in this thread?
