He seems a decent chap, and his blog is an interesting read. I would expect he will have to be careful on what appears on it now he works for ITN, and is going to present the main shows. Is that correct? Or is he just working as a reporter.

Ah, but there is a critical line in there about the future shape of the ITN newsroom amongst other things Wink

But then again, ITV News will have to try out these 'new ones' to present the weekend news, seeing as all the faces from the ITN News days seem to be leaving at the moment.

The weekend news used to be on top-level status in the late 80s - late 90s for me, with the likes of newscasters on a regular basis such as: Denis Tuohy, Dermot Murnaghan, Tim Ewart [he was actually a brilliant eloquent newscaster - why isn't he reading the news from time to time], Nicholas Owen, Carol Barnes, John Suchet, Anya Sitram, Sandy Gall et al.

Now I know ITN had more money then, to spend from their yearly allowance ITV gives them, but it will be nice to see some of their 'older' reporters and newscasters to be given a try on the weekend news, against their younger counterparts?

How about Tim Rogers, Tim Ewart, Penny Marshall - someone among those lines who wish to moonlight as a newscaster?

Sandy Gall never read the weekend news, except during special coverage of wars, disasters, etc. He also did a few all day shifts in the holiday "zone" between Christmas and New Year during some years. But, rarely weekends per se.

Some other "notables" who were frequent ITN Weekend presenters were Sue Carpenter, Ann Leuchars, Brenda Rowe and even Michaels Brunson and Nicholson from time to time. And of course, Trevor started out as weekend newscaster.

What about Mark Webster, I thought he read the weekened news from time to time? He was bloody awful too.

I know pretty recently he did the overnight shifts - and pretty awful is probably an understatement.

Now the News Channel has gone I guess the weekend bulletins are the most obvious place to test people out, but I still think there should be a more regular presenter - though Nina will probably take the role when she returns (if no one else gets pregnant!)

If she returns, that is...

No one seems to have mentioned the little piece in todays media guardian about ITN news crews having to start a report by filming a tennis ball for 15 seconds so that they know if their report is being filmed in 4:3 to be cropped or on their new 16:9 kit.

Could this mean a change to proper widescreen soon? If so, it's about time.

Surely the studio is already capable as shown on the pre advert previews.

Phil Gayle did all the bulletins over Christmas and the New Year, last week it was a women who I can't remember her name, on Sunday it was Sian Jones and then on Monday Faye Barker made an appearance
