How about Tim Rogers, Tim Ewart, Penny Marshall - someone among those lines who wish to moonlight as a newscaster?

There is an obvious reason as to why they are not newsreaders; they're ugly .

Alastair Stewart and James Mates aren't exactly attractive, but that doesn't stop them...

They're presentable, and I think they're quite handsome.

Well, whatever tickles your pickle. Very Happy

Oh do grow up, silly boy.

It was a joke. Don't be so serious. Rolling Eyes

It could be that Tim Rogers, Tim Ewart, Penny Marshall et al, are quite happy just to stick with reporting? I'm sure there are plenty of TV reporters who aren't fussed about presenting bulletins Cool

I also imagine they were happy presenting the occassional weekend/overnight bulletin in the 90s, but when the ITN/ITV News Channel came along (before it went), they wanted to stick more to reporting rather than end up presenting long shifts on a rolling news channel.

And from the other point of view, when the 24 hr channel came (and went), they bought in more "presenters" anyhow - and even now the channel closed alot of the main faces still seem to have some sort of role with ITN.

Indeed, I'm always amused by people on here saying that "they" should try out various people to see if they're good enough to present regularly. For a kick-off, I imagine that the management would trial inexperienced presenters in rehearsals rather than putting them straight on the air. Also, as you said, it depends on personal choice. Just as not all teachers want to become headteachers, not all reporters want to become presenters.

Erm...should this guy really have a blog if he's moving on up to the national bulletins? As far as I know, journalists who appear on television don't usually have blogs, as it puts them at risk, in security terms.
Also, should he be blabbing on the internet about matters ITN may want to keep private? And finally, just for you Jez

What are you talking about - all the C4 team seem to have a blog!

This bloke isn't exactly Trevor McDonald, or Natasha Kaplinsky for that matter!
