The problem is if they got rid of 2 presenters on the lunchtime news is what would they do with Katie? They would probabaly keep the male presenter (Nick Owen and then Alistair when he takes over) so where would Katie go? Cant see her being happy just doing London Tonight and only standing in on the Evening News once in a while.

Why does Mary never do a full week? Is she part time or what? - at least Mark Austin has the excuse of doing longer shifts (the 6.30 and 10.30) during Mon-Thurs to have the Friday off work. I still dont agree with Mark having 2 bulletins.

Re Lucy Owen - well those of you that critisise her have obviously not seen her on Wales Tonight. She is really very good on there. I find her fine on the national news as well, but obviously she doesnt show as much of her personality on there.

Steve Scott is totally underused

Steve Scott isn't underused. He now works at ITV West Monday to Thursdays and is the permanent Friday presenter of the ITV Evening News

If he works the weekend, it means he's doing 6 or 7 days a week

They can't use him on national Mon to Thur even if they wanted to

Yes, he was often the second presenter on C4 News.

Edited to add: 1997-2000, according to his agent.

As it's ultimately the same people in charge of ITV West and the national news, if they wanted him at ITN on a weekday he'd be there.

Ah, OK. I was thinking that if it did happen, it must've been a while ago!

Exactly. Which is why they often take Lucy for ITV Wales News/Wales Tonight mid week for the ITV News in London.

(Taken from "I Was There, The People's Review 2006" which, despite being based on what I had expected to be a questionable foundation of viewer provided footage, was really rather good).

So even stranger than that was an Endemol production, I believe!

Re: Phil Gayle - he used to be the second presenter quite alot on C4 News when he was doing The Big Breakfast. I think Jasmine Lowson might have occassionally appeared too, but nowhere near as often. Don't think Peter Smith ever did it though - but I never watched C4 News when I was that young!
