Steve live at a scene *forgot where!* with Geraint in the studio. Shame they don't have to males or two females now and again together in the studio.. e.g on Fridays.

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but today marks one year since the closure of the News Channel. Now even though I hardly watched it I regret it's passing!

Last year at the time of 17:57 the News Channel closed. With Alistar Stewart being the last presenter to present on it.
I wish the News Channel was still around to this day - I'm sure it would look nice with the current graphics package. What a shame - however at the time it was starting to go downhill a bit.

Moving onto christmas and does anyone know who will be presenting the News programmes on Monday. Sorry if this question has already been asked and answered in advance.

Little chance of the News Channel returning, but although in the ratings at least it was always third choice, I think it's closure and the subsequent launch of ITV Play using space on Freeview (Men & Motors) claimed to be unavailable months earlier has done alot of damage to ITV as a whole.

Until they realise that the unprofitable things like ITV News and CITV are as important to the channel as Coronation Street and I'm a Celebrity they really are going to struggle to rebuild the brand.

P.S. A quick "Where are they now?" question then. I know Lucy Alexander pops up regularly on Sky News, but what about Leyla Deybelge, Andrew Harvey, Jon Nicholson and that long serving presenter, Scott Chisholm?

Lucy Owen is doing bullletins on Monday.

I dont miss the news channel, I hardly ever watched it. The news on ITV1 is plenty to watch.

I miss the News Channel - mainly the enthusiasm of the staff considering they were seriously underfunded and unwanted by the ITV fat cats. I still think its such a shame that the channel wasn't invested in, it had so much potential.

Oh well!

An excellent comment about channel branding, diverse programming and public service broadcasting. But hang on: over in the BBC Parliament thread, you seem to be arguing the very opposite with respect to BBC branded parliamentary coverage!

Brekkie Boy posted:
As I've said before there is a place for live parliamentary broadcasts but the amount of time the channel spends broadcasting recorded coverage, especially of previous elections which are only of interest to a minority of the minority, doesn't justify a whole channel, especially on Freeview where space is limited and can be used more effectively at times for other things.

I know people will hit back with the "public service" argument - but how can it be deemed a public service when the public are just not interested!

Things I miss from the ITV NC:

- Live with Alastair Stewart. He had some good guests and none of the other channels does that sort of longer-form serious interview on a daily basis.

- Some of the presenters - eg John Nicolson, Felicity Barr, Owen Thomas, Leyla Daybelge

- The material from the regions that used to get a national airing.

As Phil said, it was clear that despite obvious underfunding the hard work of the channel's staff enabled it to punch above its weight.

Yeh totally agree there. I miss the News Channel, personally; the staff were so enthusiastic considering, and I enjoyed the quirkiness of the channel, as it was something different. In particular, I enjoyed Sunday mornings; Live with John Nicolson - one of the best programmes on the channel IMO. It was light hearted and John was a truly fantastic host. I also miss Owen Thomas. Sad
