But the studio was about 1 million pounds am I right?
And with ITV's budget I highly doubt they will be getting a whole new one. This studio has the ability to adapt very easily and thats one of the reasons why ITV built it.

I think you are confusing SET with STUDIO.

AIUI the ITV News £1million bought them not just the white perspex floor, desk and CSO green screens with projectors (which is the physical set), it also bought them a whole bunch of virtual set processing gear, high quality chroma-keyers etc., and the graphics processors to feed them, which would class as STUDIO infrastructure.

If you stayed with a virtual set - then you could change the physical elements of the set and the virtual models for a much smaller investment... After all, you'd still be using much of the 1million quids worth of studio gear.

The Sunday night edition is arguably ITV News's flagship bulletin - generally gets the highest ratings at least.

As I've said since the ITV News Channel closed they should put more focus on the weekend bulletins, especially now ITV have torn up most of their weekend schedule.

A fixed 30 minute edition (including local opt-outs) at 12.30pm and 5.30pm would be a good idea,with a late15-minute edition around 11pm.

It might get the more viewers than any other bulletin during the week but id hardly call it a flagship bulletin. It probably gets more as there isnt as much competition on the other channels as mid week.

Also I think the lunchtime weekend bulletins are fine as they are - they dont need half an hour. Teatime might as well be though as its already half an hour when you include the regional and national together.

why would two 30 minute bulletins be necessary on a weekend? There generally isn't the number of staff or indeed a suitable amount of news to carry that off every week.

I think Brekkie Boy ment with regional news included.

Well as I said 30 mins including regional news at teatime is fine but at lunchtime 10 mins for both is ample.

Well I was very impressed with the ITV News this evening at 7.40. Lots of live reporting, thorough analysis... I wouldn't have said there was *that* much difference in staff levels producing this and a weekday bulletin?

And as an aside, I really do rate Romilly Weeks as a presenter. I have never really had an opinion either way, but from seeing her tonight I think she is excellent.

I wouldn't neccessarily call it a flagship bulletin, but I bet when ITV News bosses are trying to hand a presenter the weekend shift it's presented that way!

You make it sound like presenters have some sort of choice in what shifts they work.

Well I think if they do give a presenter a regular weekend slot it will be between Geraint Vincent, Romilly Weeks, Lucy Owen and when she returns Nina Hossain. The other presenters work all week. Lucy does but I expect she wouldnt mind leaving Wales Tonight for a regular job at ITN.

Breaking News report just then on ITV1 about the Suffolk murders.

Next bulletin at 1.30pm - so I take it there is no mid morning ITV News Summary then or is that to short to class as a proper bulletin?

Yes, I agree. Normally, it is voiced over reports by unknown reporters on a weekend, but this week we had big faces such as Juliet Bremner live from Suffolk. Romilly is a good presenter. At the end of last night's weekend news, who filed the sports report? He sounded utterly drunk, not to mention patronising, and slow...
