This has happened before..as for same sex couples, well I never realised it was compulsory for presenters to share beds as well as newsdesks?

I think that Mary and Nina would be good. It may not happen immediately, but there is still scope. It depends on how brave and imaginative bosses at ITV News are!

Well, judging by their recent actions at ITV News, I would say that they are being the opposite of imaginative (hint: ITV NC).

Despite same-sex couples being a generally accepted thing these days, I think two women together only really suits regional news at most, and two men together doesn't really suit anything.

I maintain that Mark stays at 6:30 and Alastair goes to 10:30.

I really don't think that this forum or thread is the place to discuss your views on same sex couples anyway. We really don't care about your thoughts on this matter in a TV forum site.

I'd have thought that Natasha Kerplinski and Mishal Hussein's frosty performance on Breakfast in the summer of 2004 was a good recommendation not to go down this route,

God - why all this fuss about Mark having Friday off?

The advert that stated he would be presenting it "Weeknights at 10.30". Rolling Eyes

Nothing new here - the ads for things like the relaunch in 2004 and 1999 stated Trevor McDonald be presenting Weeknights, as have ads for Kirsty Young on Five News and the team on BBC1.

God - will the forum cope if Mark Austin happens to pop up at the Weekend some time!

Totall agree, the man does have a life. The people who find it an outrage that Mark didn't work all five days should try working from about ten in the morning until after eleven in the evening. It's pretty demanding, esepcially for a journalist. I think it was a great idea for a presenter to front both bulletins, even if it wasn't Alastair. It's almost unheard of, especially at the BBC to have a single newsreader do two full half-hour bulletins. That's what makes ITV's approach to news distinctive and quirky.

They were good! Especially with the snake, was it a snake as I recall?

There was a prize-winning cat and a snake on the set at the time.

Mishal must have been presenting solo.

Seriously, La Kaplinsky doesn't want anyone to nick her glamorous presenter role. So you can understand why you can't have two women when SHE is presenting.

Surely he knew how much work it would involve when he agreed to take on both the evening and 10.30 bulletins.

IIRC ITV News once called Friday night bulletins "Weekend News" although i'm not sure when they did. So, theoretically he has been presenting it weeknights. He's only had one day off for god's sake, give the poor man a break! Twisted Evil

This was between January 2001 and January 2004 when they reinstated the News At Ten, but News At Ten was never (to my knowledge anyway) broadcast on a Friday night, so they called the Friday bulletin the Weekend News, as it would broadcast at 10.30pm or often later, and it wasn't fronted by Trevor McDonald, it was often fronted by Katie Derham IIRC, but like other ITV News bulletins they usually got anyone to present it.

With the itv News Channel closing what will happen with the news presenters they had?

What happens when the likes of Andrea Catherwood and Katie Derham come back from mat leave?

They can't keep Lucy Alexander just to present London Today for 10 minutes. Andrea Catherwood usually covers for Mary Nighingale and Katie Derham, so they can't keep Leyla Daybelge. James Mates and Bill Neely normaly cover for Nick Owen and Mark Austin, so why do they need Steve Scott.

I think they will keep Nina Hossain, dont know why but I think they will and Felicity Barr will stay to present the sport on the new nightly news

And the others, Andrew Harvey, Owen Thomas, Chris Rogers, Joyce Ohaja!
